One of my favorite taco shops
Santanas Mexican food is a chain of slightly upscale taco shops in San Diego County. There are 10 or 15 scattered throughout the county, and they have recently changed their name to Fresh MXN Food and have begun renovating their restaurants to present a bit of a more refined look than your standard dive taco shop. The food is still authentic, though. I particularly like their carne asada tacos, and the one pound California burrito (carne asada and French fries inside). A big plus for me is the salsa bar, with four or five different flavors of salsa to choose from. A bit of a minus for me is their pickled carrots (while they taste good) are a bit on the skimpy side. They are almost julienned, and I prefer big chunks. I still go there all the time, and it is one of my favorite taco shops in San Diego.

Very good food
Miguels is a new Mexican restaurant that has opened up in 4S Ranch in Rancho Bernardo. We are a bit lacking in restaurant choices, so the new addition is welcome. When the restaurant first opened, it was called the Zocalo Grill (it is owned by the group that owns Brigantine, Zocalos, and Miguels). But after only a couple of months they switched it to Miguels. I think Zocalos menu was a little upscale for the neighborhood. The interior of the restaurant still reflects the upscale design. It is quite beautiful with very high ceilings and a very open and airy feel. There were lots of cars in the parking lot when we went, but the restaurant was not crowded at all. The food is standard Americanized Mexican food. Very goo, but not spectacular. Prices are decent. I will definitely visit again.
