An offer you cannot refuse!
The Godfather Italian Restaurant, located at 7878 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, is Italian dining in San Diego at its finest. We've been going there for years and for good reason. There's tableclothes, tuxedoed waiters, live piano music, and of course, delicious authentic Italian food. The owner Isidoro and his family have succeeded in creating one of San Diego's best restaurants. The service is attentive, your water glass is routinely filled, if you're having a bottle of one of their fine wines from their extensive wine menu, the waiters are sure to pour more into your glass when it's low. At the beginning of dinner you are treated to their appetizer dish of fried zucchini. The menu offers a huge assortment of dishes that one would expect of a fine dining establishment, from home made pastas to steaks to seafood, and the quality of the food is consistently upper tier. The dishes are generous enough for the heartiest of appetites and taking home a doggy bag is virtually a given. It is rare that one finds both quality and quantity, but when it comes to dining at The Godfather Restaurant, it's an offer you cannot refuse!

The Nordstrom of outdoor retail
For outdoor enthusiasts, REI is a dream come true. They're on Copley Drive, you can see their store if you're driving on 52 between 805 and 15.
The quality of the merchandise here is high-end, and for the serious backpacker/camper/adventurer, you don't want any compromises when you are out in the middle of nowhere when it comes to your gear. I consider them the "Nordstrom" of outdoor retail, not only because of the quality of their merchandise, but also because of the customer service and the return policy. Of course, the merchandise can be considered to be priced at a premium, but you certainly get what you pay for. I have never been disappointed with anything I purchased there, returning anything with my receipt was hassle-free and the service is always attentively helpful.
The only thing I am disappointed about this particular store, and it has nothing to do with their customer service or merchandise, is that years ago they used to have a rock-climbing wall in the center of the store. It was taken down and I wish it was brought back.

Voted for Wine Steals
Golf, drink wine, enjoy life.
Wine Steals is strategically located right at the Sail Ho Golf Course. My wife and I love to golf and drink wine, so this is the perfect combo!
The place has been beautifully converted from the old abandoned building it use to be before the complete overhaul of the golf course several years ago. The building maintained its raw brick interior, giving it a"cellar" feel. There is a bar, several tables, and couches with tables. Those are the most sought-after seating. There's also another room around the back which offers more couches and tables, as well as a bit more privacy and quiet.
At Wine Steals, there's rows of bottled wine to purchase from all over the United States and the world. You scout out which bottle you want to drink and the bartenders/waiters will uncork it for you. There's also a menu for food - basically fruit and cheese plates, and pizzas. The prices of the wine vary from moderate to expensive. The food is very good, and their prices are reasonable.
Just a note: absolutely no one under the age of 21 is permitted inside the building - not even babies! But they wouldn't be playing golf anyway.

Voted for Poor Boy Subs
Great subs!
I love a fresh sub, and Poor Boy Subs on Clairemont Mesa Blvd makes them fresh for you. They're in the strip mall just west of 163. Only after you order a sub sandwich here do they start slicing the meats. That is, I believe, the only way to make a sub. They also come in sizes for any appetite - 4", 6", 8" and 10" - which is great because then you won't need to buy any more than you want to eat. There's the usual toppings for you to call out as they're making the sub right in front of you - lettuce, tomato, etc.
The restaurant itself is nothing out of the ordinary - the day we went there their air conditioning was not on, or it was out of order. The bench seat booths are typical of a sandwich store. There was the typical fare for soft drinks (self-serve). I did not notice if they served any beer or alcohol.
All in all I would go there again for a sub sandwich because they make it fresh. The only criticism I have is they should rethink the bread they use. It was very bland both in taste as well as texture. I believe many people underestimate the importance of the bread in the making of a sub or sandwich. The bread is just as important as what goes between it.

Definitely will come back
3rd Corner Wine and Bistro, located at the corner of Bacon and is a wine bar and restaurant. It has a very intimate and cozy atmosphere, and is a great place to meet up with friends - which is what we did. We shared a few bottles of wine, had great conversation and had a great time.
3rd Corner has wines displayed out so patrons can 'shop' for the wine they want to drink, and the waitresses will bring them to your table and uncork them. They were very good about bringing new glasses when our wines changed, and very good about supplying water for our party.
There's also a menu for ordering food. We ordered a fruit and cheese plate, it was delicious, and so we ordered a second one. The plate consisted of dried apricots, fresh grapes and green apples, I couldn't make out all the cheeses, but I think one was a brie with honey drizzled on it, another was a sharp blue cheese of some sort, and there also was a sort of aged parmesean.
The prices for the wines ranged from moderate to expensive, and the food was fairly priced. For those of us who love to drink wine, definitely try 3rd Corner Wine Shop and Bistro!
