Love Trader Joe's
I went to this location for years, and it has everything that other Trader Joe's have to offer. However, I've been going to the Scripps Location since it opened because it's a really large store and the parking is ample.

The Carmel Mountain location is nice because the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It think Trader Joe's must treat their employees well because they always seem really happy, like they're enjoying themselves while they work. I don't encounter employees like this at Henry's or Jimbo's--two other stores that I frequent.

The negative about this location is the parking is a nightmare during certain hours. The shopping center is really popular and has quite a few businesses. If you go here during lunch hours, you'll spend five minutes trying to park, unless you're lucky! The other negative is that it's relatively small compared to the newer locations.

I love that Trader Joe's carries so many natural foods and organic foods. I have a list of "bargains" that I always seek out from trader joes--eggs, goat cheese, goat milk yogurt, cereal, coffee--and a number of other things. They also carry great items in their beauty department--for a great price--I like their hand soaps and their jojoba oil. I also buy my dog food here--a great natural variety--and dog treats.

I have been so accustomed to shopping at trader Joes that I wouldn't know what to do without one nearby!

Great Place for Lunch
Michele Coulon has built a really good reputation for her wedding cakes--she is one of the premier bakers in San Diego. However, this little cafe is a great place for lunch, as well. I love the quaint atmosphere of this place--it's tucked away in a small shopping center, and has a very intimate feeling to it. Their menu is small, but everything is really good. I love their salads and the chicken sandwich, all made with really good, high quality, sustainable ingredients. I like to support restaurants that care about food--serving free range meats and organic produce--this little cafe has been serving such foods for many years. They have a soup du jour, and they are always really delicious. But, my favorite is the french onion, which is also served daily. The mini-cakes are always a delicious way to finish a great lunch. Service is good, and becomes very personal when you are a regular, which is nice. It's a good value for the quality of the food.

Great Place for Kids
We went to the aquarium for the fist time a couple of days ago, and had a great time--my son absolutely loved it and threw a bit of a stinker when we had to leave (that's when I know he really likes a place). First off, the aquarium has coupons for a free child admission with an adult admission in may of the coupon fliers that come in the mail or the free family magazine that you can find at grocery stores (usually where the reader and other like publications are). The aquarium itself is beautiful, and has a great view of La Jolla from its back balcony. The tanks are really interesting, and we especially loved the jellyfishes! My son was stung by one at Torrey Pines and so it was exciting for him to see the very strange looking creature that stung him! There is a man-made tide pool in the back, although our local tide pools are so much more fun and exciting. I guess the plus would be that there are starfish that kids can actually touch. They also have a water feature where kids can create water flows by moving boards around and then releasing boats to see which direction and how fast they move. That was a huge hit with all the kids! Overall, the aquarium was an enriching experience for my son and I really enjoyed it too. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Food Causes Excessive Thirst
I have friends that live in San Elijo Hills, and this is one of their favorite neighborhood taco shops so I've frequented it many times. However, I have decided to stop going because every time we eat here my son and I get excessively thirsty. I suspect that they're adding some form of MSG into their food, as all of us experience this after our meal.

With that said, there is no denying that the food here is definitely tasty. It also seems very authentic. In the past, what I really liked were their chips and salsa--very spicy and delicious. In addition to their standard salsa, they also have a great salsa bar with many different types of salsas. They have good carne asada burritos, flautas, street tacos, and enchiladas. My favorite thing to order was the Tostada Supreme bowl with carne asada. However, like I said all of this food causes excessive thirst so I don't plan on going back again.

Otherwise, the service is really good. The place is clean and has a nice area for outdoor seating. It's also a pretty good value.

Upscale Amusement Park
This is a great amusement park for younger kids and their parents. We had a season's pass last year, which was great for my preschooler because we were able to go a lot during the school year. I loved that it was never crowded--the wait in lines were only about 5 minutes tops during the low season. During the high, summer season we maybe waited twenty minutes at the most for the most popular rides. This park is really clean and in great working order. I've rarely noticed rides closed for maintenance. The people working there are super friendly and helpful. I would always bring in my own food because, like most amusement parks, the food isn't great and it's very expensive. So the best part about lego land are their rides and attractions. They have several play areas that are fantastic for kids of all ages. They have so many rides that are fun for toddlers and middle aged children. Most of their rollarcoasters are tame enough for three year-olds, but also fun for adults. Overall, I highly recommend Lego Land. I think their only downfall is the Aquarium. I got in for a reduced rate with my pass, but I would never want to pay full price for this. It's very mediocre and there are better aquariums in San Diego to go too, with more affordable admission prices.
