Voted for Hala Kahiki Lounge
Go to Hala Kahiki! Where else in Illinois can you step into a little piece of Hawaii, tucked away in a quiet suburb? They have a wide selection of tropical drinks (I recommend the Scorpion) and are reasonably priced for such novelty drinks. It is a quiet atmosphere, with low lighting and candles on the tables. There is also a cute gift shop - but be warned, it closes early. You can sit at the bar itself, or sit at a table and be served by a waitress. It's not your usual weekend bar but the cute atmosphere is worth the loss of your usual beer-and-shot routine. Definitely good for a 'girl's night out'!

There aren't many real confection shops left, and this one proves why that is such a shame. The candies and chocolates sold here are practically gourmet! The chocolate covered strawberries are practically famous, and their fudge is delicious! Be sure to try the Espresso Bars, chocolate covered marshmallows, mint meltaways and the peanut butter cups as well. The only real problem here is the cost -- it's a little pricey, but given the quality, that should be almost expected. You can't put a price on good quality in chocolate anymore, particularly when there is so much packaged junk in the stores these days.

Voted for Dog House The
The Dog House is a mixed experience. First, there is a great selection of pet - that's dogs AND cats - toys, clothes [yes, clothes], and treats, which is very helpful for the loving pet owner. There are even pet bowls, leashes, harnesses, and pet-centric treats for the pet owner - photo frames, etc. So on first glance, it's a good place for pet owners. Then comes the bad part.<br />
It is extremely overpriced, even for some pretty unusual stuff - yes, the Cubs jacket for your poodle is cute, but is it worth the price they are asking? Maybe not. On top of that, the staff is slightly less than friendly. Every time I have entered, I have felt as though I was being watched or followed -- which is pretty rude, I think. So if you HAVE to have a $16 cat toy, it's a good place to go - but beware the rude staff!

This little store holds a whole lot! Inside are many different collectible figurines, including a HUGE selection of the extremely popular Wee Forest Folk -- which I have not seen anywhere else. There are your standard cutesy - animal type figurines, along with more folksy items that can be personalized -- think, Christmas ornaments, fridge magnets, etc. The only real problem here is the CLOSE quarters! Everything is cramped. You can't even go in with a bag on your arm, for fear of breaking an expensive collectible dangling on the far end of one of the many, many shelves.

Voted for British Accents
There are some things that are just difficult to come by in Illinois: Cadbury chocolates [and no, not the creme eggs you get at Easter], Heinz Sticky Toffee Pudding, Heinz Chocolate Pudding, Aero Bars, Jelly Babies, Turkish Delights and so on. The British people have some tasty snacks and you can find everything worth buying at British Accents -- and for VERY reasonable prices, considering that the products are not readily available in the US. Along with the British grocer goods are some souvenier type items, perfect for British friends or just enthusiasts. If you go to Long Grove, this should be your first stop!
