Our Purpose-- Silk Road Needle Arts strives to be a premier shop in the Tampa Bay Area, providing a wide and varied collection of quality threads, fabrics, needlepoint canvases, and cross stitch designs that are almost impossible to find in any one central location. The purpose of the shop is not to stock everything, but to provide an excellent variety of quality items at reasonable prices. Each thread has been evaluated to determine if it meets a defined niche need and, more importantly, to see if it lives up to manufacturers' claims. We try to avoid threads which prove to be disappointing and difficult to use. Eddie Williams, the shop owner, spent over 2 years investigating dozens of shops and contacting hundreds of vendors, evaluating items that would meet the needs of the discriminating needle artist. Designs and products from around the world are included in the shop--from the United States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia, and other countries throughout the world. Hence the name, "Silk Road" is appropriate, evocative of the many trade items which traversed the "Silk Road" from China. The shop actively participates in promotion and education in the needle arts. Instruction is offered in the shop to meet the various needs of the community, and the owner is glad to share his insights and advice on stitching projects. Once successful, a portion of the shop proceeds have been designated to be re-invested into the local community, specific charitable projects deal with drug education and AIDS prevention programs.
