Yellow Pages UsesSo what is MojoPages.com? Glad you asked. MojoPages.com is a next generation (at least we think so) type of yellow pages. YellowPages 2.0 if you will (thanks to Robin Good at MasterNewMedia for the hip description). We will have all the 15 million businesses you see listed in a typical online yellow pages directory and then we combine it with a social networking environment. You’ll be able interact with everyone in your community and beyond. You can connect with friends, make new friends, and most importantly share ratings, reviews and information all focused on helping you find the businesses in your community who are treating their customer’s right.

We hope to launch December 2006, if all goes according to plan. (Knocking on wood). Can’t wait a few more weeks to see all that MojoPages.com has to offer? Sign up for an invitation to our Alpha Launch.

Don’t go throwing away your yellow pages just yet. There are plenty of great uses for that big sturdy chunk of the rain forest. Why not use it to level that uneven desk or table in the house? Or you could use it on those cold winter nights; just tear out a few pages, place them in the fire place under some logs and presto, warm fire started without wasting something useful like the newspaper. Take that yellow pages; Yellow Pages 0 MojoPages 1.

About the Blog: You’re going to get the “insiders” view about what life’s like at MojoPages.com. Every team member will be contributing posts in their own words on what it’s like working at MojoPages.com. Yep, we’re even making our CFO Frank Asaro write some blog posts. He’s never written one before but for that matter neither have Ray, Jager or I. Actually Rodney and Rand are the only ones who are not web 1.0 on our team. So, time for the rest of us to get a crash course in blogging. What better way to learn than to hurl yourself out to the public while you’re learning… wait… um… maybe that’s not a great way to learn. Oh well, too late to turn back now.

There are three reasons we created this blog:
1. To give you the opportunity to come along on this wild ride. We’re spending long days and nights riding this roller coaster of a start-up to try and create a better form of local search. This blog will be like a time capsule with the good, bad and ugly experiences that a small internet company faces while going after the big guys. A sort of David versus Goliath and you get to see it all go down in real-time (or at least with only a day or two delay).

2. We want to develop our website with real-time feedback from potential users. I was always confused at why companies would build a website or product and then ask customers for feedback after they launch. We want to build it with you and get your feedback before it launches so we can make changes quickly without rewriting the whole code. So occasionally you’ll see blog post with functionality we’re thinking about using or design concepts. You can provide comments and together we’ll figure out what works best. We’ll also have open posts were you can talk about what you would love to have to help you find the best local businesses. This is a team effort and by team I mean every single person in the whole world who wants to use MojoPages.com

3. I also want this blog to help shed some light for those who are thinking about starting their own business or those who are already in the thick of it. By watching us go through this start-up process you can see what works and what doesn’t. The idea is to pass on as many helpful tips as we can and help you learn from our mistakes so you don’t have to go through them. I’ve picked up a few small tidbits of advice through my entrepreneur years that I’ll be sharing in my posts. You’ll also get to learn from the other team members, who are smarter and more experienced than me (at least most of the time, depending on who got the most sleep the night before). So dig in and let us know if there is something specific you’d like to hear about or something you’d like to change about our blog.

About the Video: You’ll be able to go behind the scenes and actually watch the start-up journey via video. We’ve got this guy Kevin Popovic following us around everywhere we go, well almost everywhere. Then each week he’s going to break down the hours and hours of tape into a juicy 10 minute segment highlighting all that happened the previous week. We’ll be filming all the events that occur and taking you inside our meetings, houses, phone calls, investor pitches and more. Each team member will be doing “confessionals” every couple of nights to share their hopes, fears, stresses and joys with you. It’s a little risky but should be a ton of fun
