Do not hire Zimmer and Kohl Contractors.
In April we had a water backup in our basement. So we brought in several contractors to give us bids. Zimmer and Kohl's came in the lowest. We like saving money and were told because they work in volume, they could keep the prices low.
So we gave them a deposit.
Then they stopped calling. Then we fought for two weeks to get on their schedule. The weeks leading up to the work, I moved everything out of our basement, ripped up the carpets and tossed them in the garage so they could haul them out when the job was done, which they agreed to.
So the big day arrives, only Zimmer and Kohl are no where to be found. NOWHERE. Finally, I get hold of the person who did my estimate, he says their contractor needs to come out and measure. Odd. Their contractor had been here before and they'd already measured our place twice.
So when their contractor, Ben, does show up, he's angry and for some odd reason starts taking it out on me. He yelled, screamed and threw a temper tantrum and then threw a check at us. Eventually he stormed out of our house swearing.
So we work with the estimator again and come up with a price $3000 above the initial estimate. Which is a lot, but my wife and I had planned from overages based on the other estimates we'd seen. And at this point we've been dealing with Zimmer and Kohl for 5 weeks. We just want the pain to stop.
The day we're supposed to sign the new estimate, they tell us the new price will be $10,000 more than the initial estimate. We balked.
These guys are scam artists and the dictionary definition of sleazy, underhanded contractors. DO NOT HIRE ZIMMER AND KOHL!
They will leave you high and dry and with unfinished work.
