Great Bead Store for Beginners!
First off, I should admit that I work at the sister-store, Nomadic Notions, up in Austin, TX (as of this writing). But I don't think that means I can't be objective, being something of a bead-junkie.
So the pluses about Z Bead: the service. Employees are encouraged and expected to greet every customer and really give them personal assistance, whether it's just helping 'em pick out beads and supplies, or walking them through the whole jewelry-making process. Bead-trays and tools are available for use, so folks can walk in and make a piece right there, with assistance from the staff if necessary.
We've also got a whole array of classes, and the schedules usually feature 3-month stretches, so you can plan in advance. I've been making jewelry for 3 years, and believe me, I don't know how to make HALF the stuff my co-workers teach. So it's an excellent opportunity if you're looking to expand your knowledge, or if you're just wanting to make a few cute presents for friends and family.
I guess the downside would be the price -- we're probably a bit pricier than some other bead stores, and certainly moreso than some bargains you can find online -- just one of the hazards of running a retail outlet. We may not have quite as wide a selection, either. But if you're a beginner at beading, Z Bead is probably your best bet.
