I'm a film major at Columbia and I've been going to this place since I was born, when they really were a hole-in-the-wall kind of joint, and I'm fiercely loyal to them. These guys know what they're doing; they know movies and "film" better than any other video store I've ever found, and they're not at all pretentious about it (cough *Kim's*). The owner teaches NYU film courses and they repay loyalty with little favors, great recommendations, and general friendliness. They have movies you can't find anywhere else, from original Windsor McKay animations to 50s french naughty flicks to the entire Criterion collection to the latest blockbuster. Plus, they're just cool people.

just had to write a short note of endorsement & appreciation for this place bc i've loved it ever since i stumbled into the shop in my search of the original muppet movie (which they had). nicest part is that the staff is always super friendly and helpful on recommendations...

I usually get my movies from Netflix, but was in between videos and decided to give this place a shot. I walked over, picked out a movie, and then was told that it would cost me $25 just to join so that I could start renting. No thanks....

Given that Kim's seems to be getting into more and more trouble, the World of Video is a good alternative, with a similar indie flair and less grunge and porn. Very clean and well organized and in a very good location. Prices are moderate, but the staff is good and friendly, also unlike Kim's. Give it a shot if you're on Greenwich.

This store and Kim's are last of a dying breed. Film stores where the employees are film buffs and know there stuff and the person who orders isn't just looking toorder 50 copies of the next Eddie Murphy film. The difference between this shop and Kim's is that this stores employees are a treaure to talk to. They'll chat up a film they like but not hate you when you bring it back and didn't love it like they did. A nice mature place, hopefully Blockbuster will stay away.
