As a secret shopper I might be a little extra critical; however, when I went in to cash a Moneygram Money-Order @ West Coast Cash on California Ave I was asked to give 3 references as well as my driver's license information which is typical and proper for a check cashing place. But, when I was asked to disclose my Social Security # I told them that since they are a private institution and NOT a Federal Agency or Government Institution I don't have to give that information to them. After all, I was ONLY cashing a Moneygram Money-Order NOT ASKING FOR A LOAN. It was amusing to hear the shitty, standard answer that workers come up with to say as an easy way to get out of a challenging situation because they are just not trained on the law. I know this because some loser out there stole my identity, took loans in my name and bought airline tickets on my credit card. Ever since, I have started to educate myself about my rights and people's rights and have found a plethora of cases where we (as consumers) are being taken advantage of by businesses as well. It is companies like West Coast Cash, etc. that think they can hold you by the balls if you don't pay back. Besides the fact that pay-day-loan companies charge an extremely high rate for very small loans (which I consider an abomination); unfortunately, the law permits it, yet, based on the other review I read on Yahoo it is also incredibly UNLAWFUL for ANY creditor to call your friends and family members if a bill isn't paid. Most individuals walk around being intimated by credit card companies, collectors of sorts, etc. because they just don't know their rights as consumers. Soon enough I hope that consumers begin to learn more about what is fair or not. Once this happens and these companies start being challenged by their clients when treatment is unfair and unlawful most likely a change will arise. Until then, I have my work cut out for me. I will continue to educate myself. West Coast Cash, I've never heard of a Money Order being sent back. NEVER! In addition, I used to work for a financial institution like yours and we were trained to accept other forms of identification in place of a SSN. I believe YOU have violated my rights!
