I detected fraudulent activity on our checking account today
I detected fraudulent activity on our checking account today (online) in the amount of $229.75. It was very hard to get through on the 800 #, and then the connection was so bad I could hardly hear. I was told it was pending, so they cannot do anything until it clears! The guy was able to find out that it was done through my husband's debit card, which he cancelled as a "lost card". He could not put in a request for a new card from me, so my husband now has to go into the Saticoy branch to order his new card, even though we have a joint checking account. I called "Judy" at the Saticoy branch to put in a "stop payment" so it doesn't clear. She told me that they cannot stop the payment, and I have to wait until this company takes my money (I did a Google search on MFI My Family Ancestrys and found out they do this to people all the time!). Once the fraudulent charge clears, then I will be able to open a fraud claim. What a hassle! So now my husband will not have a debit card for two weeks, and we will be out $229.75 until this dispute is settled. We are always very careful about who has access to our debit cards, but scams are rampant. I couldn't believe that they could not stop payment on a debit card charge that is pending. It's ridiculous.....the crooks are winning!
