WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY by robert g. at InsiderPages
So about 4 years ago, I was new to the northeast la/ eagle rock/ highland park area. My best friend and I were both looking to get tattooed. It was a friday night, i got off work around 8. By the time we get everything together and are ready to go look at tattoo shops, its around 10. Originally we had planned to go to hollywood and browse, I thank the tattoo gods in retrospect that we ended up staying local and choosing VIntage. I had passed this place many times and mentioned to my girlfriend that this shop looked very cool, my kind of shop. I could see the flash plastered all over the walls and ceiling from the street!! So we checked it out.
As fate would have it, Baba (the owner) was hanging in the doorway as we strolled up. A rare sight, as Baba is usually booked 2 months in advance. Long story short, the staff was incredibly helpful and encouraging. But they were still dicks, which is how a tattoo shop should be. I walked in for a tattoo, and walked out feeling magical. I kept coming at least once every two paychecks to feel that magic again and again.
I have also been tattooed by Tennessee Dave and Rick Walters, both of whom are Los Angeles tattoo legends. These guys still work at Vintage!! Tattoo history in the flesh!
Whenever anyone asks me where to get tattooed, I immediately tell them about Vintage. When they ask about pricing, I always respond, Who cares?! You want a bitchin tattoo or not?!
For a top notch tattoo shop in Los Angeles, their hourly rate is fair.
Piercing is a bit more expensive than most, but they use top quality jewelry. I wouldnt get tattooed or pierced anywhere else. Vintage is definitely worth the extra money.
