Sweet Sweets, Sour Service
I just got back from my first visit to Vanilla, and met a friend there for coffee and an array of sweets to try. Before I go further tho, let me qualify my review by saying I'm a pastry chef almost finished with schooling at Cordon Bleu, so I am a little biased in some ways.
The mini cupcakes and tarts were really nice. I prefer my desserts with a strong POP of flavor (sweet and/or tart like lemon), but if you have a more sophisticated palette that prefers more subtle ingredient flavor and a european (more mild) sweetness, these are not for you.
The coffees we ordered were great, the decor was nice, and the quiet-ish music playing was great. I do wish, however, that the counter staff was more warm and friendly. I felt like I walked into a morgue, and during ordering the silent counter-person barely made eye contact. In my world, service has a big impact -- the impact I got from the staff here was less than polished.
