I should have listenend to my gut instinct and walked away from this place! But instead I thought - the owner is nice and he seems to genuinely want to help me ... that is until I gave him my money! The mechanics have a god complex and really have no idea what they are doing, especially when the owner is not around. I took my bike in and told them that I thought it needed work (mind you it is a brand new bike) and the mechanic said that it is fine! WRONG! The bikerack they put on was rubbbing on the tire, the wheels needed to be trued - again this is a brand new bike! But the mechanic just couldn't be bothered to do the work. Jim at Nearly New Bicycles helped me out and the sound is gone ... I am not an idiot mr. mechanic and I am not imaginging things! A new bike should not sound like a banshee when you ride it

The people at Upgrade Cycleworks were just great when I went in shopping for a new bicycle. I had run my old one into the ground and seriously needed an upgrade. Great selection with fair pricing.

Located slightly northwest of downtown I found this great little bike shop. They build up custom road bikes here and also carry a good selection of pre-built bikes. Staff extremely curteous and were able to answer all of my questions. They cater to bike messengers and have extremely quick turnaround on bike repairs in addition to building bikes up quick. Part selection isn't the best in store but they will order anything for you. Parking is easy, not many other stores around on Chicago. Blue line stop is nearby as well.
