Three months ago I purchased over $4K worth of flooring from this company.
After completing the job we had 2 boxes of hardwood left over. I called Universal to see if I could return them and they said yes but there would be a 25% restocking fee. I agreed and sent the installer there with the boxes. They only accepted one box as the other was open (by them not us when purchased). Then I got a call saying that now I couldn't return the other box as the manufacturer wouldn't take it back. I called to speak with the owner and got his wife who immediately accused us of opening the other box of wood, said they wouldn't give me the money or bring back the wood we were told we could return and after I said that is not correct, said "I don't care" and hang up on me. I spoke to the husband and he apologized and said they would drop off the flooring.
2 months later, no flooring. I decided to stop by the store to get an update and unfortunately the wife not the husband was there. When I told her I was the one she hung up on, she paused and then said "You are the one that tried to go around us and purchase the flooring with the manufacturer directly!" What are you crazy, I spent $4k here and never got the left over flooring back.your husband promised to deliver. She said drive around back and we will give it to you. I said I don't have a truck and she rudely said that is not my problem and told me to get out! One of her employees was standing by and said that they in fact "had" promised to deliver and her last words were "When we want to get around to it and get out of the store"
I have never been treated that way by anyone, let alone a merchant I spent considerable money. with. There are so many hardwood flooring companies in LA and I wish I had never patronized this place. Buyer beware!!
