Incompetence Meets Sabotage: The UAAH Chronicles...
We recently had a double whammy with UAAH. Our 1 year old Rheem unit's "breaker" died on Thursday prompting a telephone call to UAAH around 9:30pm. Having left a message requesting a call back A.S.A.P. No one responded. After a long, hot, humid night I called the next morning at 9 a.m and spoke with Jennifer requesting they send someone out a.s.a.p. Given the unit's warranty expired in May, there would be a service charge and part charge. With no other options, I authorized the service call out of desperation. The visit was scheduled for 10am - 2pm. Jennifer was good about calling me back two times to inform me the service tech was going to be late. Upon eventual arrival he immediately determined the breaker on the 1 year old air handler unit had died requiring replacement. He stated a 1 year old unit's breaker should never die that soon and called it in. The part itself ranges from $50-$75.00. at most warehouse sites. The charge from UAAH? $275.00!!! Out of sheer desperation on my only paid day off in months I authorized the exorbidant charge. 1.5 hrs after he leaves he calls me back stating the parts warehouse had closed early and a replacement couldn't be obtained until Monday, due to the July 4th holiday. I immediately called the home office and demanded a resolution. Eventually they found a like unit and removed the breaker from someone else's "soon to be installed" unit I assume. At Approximately 5:30 - 6:00pm the part was re-installed, and payment was made. The serviceman seemed decent enough, but the costs billed by his employer are akin to thievery in my book! Fast forward 2 days... The prior weekend we called UAAH for a cleaning of my townhome's AC duct and system under the guise of a coupon stating $69.00 for duct cleaning. Forget the fact the guy left leaving all the AC vents disassembled, losing the screws in the process requiring us to call my handyman at a rate of $50.00 per hour to replace them in a secure fashion...days after his visit, a once cold, relaible central AC unit is now dead! That's right folks..No cold air being emitted from the unit, with no air at all being felt at the vents! $440.00 was the total amount paid for essentially breaking our functional AC unit in what appears to be either extreme incompetence or an attempt to generate additional revenue for the company by rupturing coils intentionally during the "cleaning" process knowing in a matter of days the unit will be completely dead. The add insult to injury this person offered us a discount to do the same job on the side, and gave us his personal cell phone number. That's rich! Destroy your other unit for a discount? Don't think so!!! So to recap, I would NOT advise you to patronize this company. They are staffed with either incompetent fools with little to no certification information retention or out right thieves who prey on people's naivity and ignorance of AC specifics coupled with the desperation of being without air on a hot, humid South Florida day! Either way...we spent $715.00 in the matter of a weeks time to repair a brand new unit, and to have a functional unit sabotaged\broken. Thanks UAAH! - One Un-Happy Customer...
