Avoid at all Costs. Sleep at the Beach it is safer.
My multiple observations that make the 14 Unity Houses unique are as follows:
3. Small energy efficient heaters are confiscated—too expensive.
4. At present, House policies change daily. Contrary to the another review, Mr. Robert Wood, was arrested in Huntington Beach in late July, 2009, for possession quantities of saleable narcotics, and possession of an unregistered and concealed hand firearm (although I’m not sure, having been denied access to his case number and Ms. Goodrich’s absolute prohibition about mentioning his name).
5. On August 30, 2009, I was summoned to Ms. Goodrich’s office. I was terrified because I thought someone had observed me taking pictures of the numerous code violations including the latest policy change of not turning on the porch light to save her “skyrocketing” electric unpaid bills. I filmed the 2 inch step going into the house, and noted that two of us were disabled or severely mentally challenged. Absent light it was a clear danger to us who are 63 and 70. We were fearful of falling and breaking a hip, neck, etc.
I drove badly (a mile away) to the Unity Office getting lost twice. I was embarrassed, humiliated and mortified, and my acute anxiety was approaching panic levels. However, upon arriving I was simply confused because there were about 10 members from other Unity houses standing around smoking. The silence and dragon-ridden smoke, a strange combination of grass and tobacco, had a frightening effect on me. When my turn came, Ms. Goodrich scribbled down my receipts amounts. Tersely stated she was now acting Director, and noted I was missing my first receipt. I had misplaced my March 25, 2009 receipt for $800.00 dollars. Two day later I received a scribbled note claiming Mr. Wood had misquoted the rental rate. Ms. Goodrich was applying the mistaken rate retro actively, and I owed Ms. Goodrich, $3400.00. The written note also mentioned a rent increase of $30.00 per month. The note was neither dated nor signed.
I was evicted a week ago when I submitted a police report that 50, 1 mg Xanax tablets had been stolen from my locked room. When I returned home the male co-managed asked where I had been.
I told the truth. He stated there would be trouble, and walked down the block to (I assume) report to Ms. Goodrich. I, in turn, called the Garden Grove police requesting protection. While packing my car, Ms. Goodrich called and demanded that I drop everything and deliver my prescription medication. I reminded her that I had instructed her and her female co-manager that if they had questions regarding my medication or privileged medical information to call my counselor at Older Adult Services. Ms. Goodrich responded that HER rules superseded any and all others. I had no comment to such an ignorant statement. I politely told her I had to terminate the conversation for the Garden Police had arrived, and I needed to greet them. Before I could hang up, Ms. Goodrich screamed: “Get out of my house; I no longer want Xanax addicts living here.” I was not surprised.
6. I was evicted with an hour’s notice (no complaint there because that was the amount of time the Policeman could stay). I stayed in a small Garden Grove Motel, was allowed to pickup most of my remaining property the next morning, and checked into a Santa Ana Hotel at 1:00 p.m.
Absent, any refund what so ever, my funds run out tomorrow, and I will be sleeping in my car at the beach until I receive my next Social Security check.
I am compelled to repeat if you are elderly, disabled, and/or mentally challenged: AVOID ANY AND/OR ALL OF THE 14 UNITY HOUSES!
