elementary school cafeteria food
If you have never traveled, never had good food, and long for the food served in elementary school cafeterias, then you may love this place. To those that are sick of reading glowing reviews of backwards, mediocre at best American cuisine, please don't waste your time or money on this shockingly bad restaurant. Our meal consisted in part of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce perfectly emulating the spirit of an open faced turkey sandwich in a truckstop.

A legend! by Joe B. at InsiderPages
In a city of legends, Tujagues stands right along with them, having been around forever. Try the pris fixe dinners which are an excellent value featuring multiple courses. They also claim to have invented the Grasshopper, a minty, creamy after dinner drink. I cannot substantiate the claim but who cares? Have one or two anyway. They go down easy.

Yummy prime rib! by Michelle B. at InsiderPages
Tujague's makes excellent food! They have great soups and desserts, but the best is the prime rib. Delicious! They have an elegant atmosphere and they serve special menus for holidays.

You'll Love the Grasshopper by Shoshana B. at InsiderPages
Tujagues Restaurant is a must every time I'm in New Orleans. The pre fixe menu includes a seafood soup, salad, fresh baked bread, a boiled beef appetizer with fresh horseradish sauce and whatever entree you have decided upon, be it turkey, seafood, chicken or pasta.

The Grasshopper was invented here. Be sure to order one at the bar or at your table. They make them better here than anywhere in the world. You will never forget it. It goes down smooth. Just don't stand up too fast after drinking one.

Solidly good creole cuisine
I felt compelled to write this review solely because of the attacks against Tujague's. Don't expect a dinner that is going to change your life...chances are, you'll probably have a better dish elsewhere if you're visiting for a few days. However, my wife and I (who have lived around New Orleans for the past five years) thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The shrimp remoulade was good, the brisket was very good, the gumbo was excellent, the entrees were very good (my wife had the crawfish etoufee while I had the chicken with creole sauce), and the bread pudding was very good/excellent. Overall it was very good. To those of you complaining about a bad meal, from what I know about and have experienced at Tujague's, you probably had a freak bad experience. It happens. As I said before, you can find a better dish in New Orleans, but it's hard to find five courses that are this solid.
