Excellent Service & Food
Some of the best chinese food outside of China Town. I am so glad they came to our neighborhood! The favorites are the Moo Shu arriving at the table already folded for you. The double pan fried noodles are delicious as is the Indian Massala appetizer. The presentation of the beef lettuce wraps in a martini glass is a delightful surprise as is the flavor. The carry out is quick and packaged appropriately. The warm washcloth at the beginning of the meal is a very nice touch. The lunch specials are a great deal and you won't need dinner that night.

Tasty but Pick up the Pace!
I live near and run business right around the corner from Tamarind. I have eaten there once and done carry out a number of times. Overall the food has been quite tasty. The atmosphere is unusually comfortable (very nice actually) for what from the outside looks like a strip mall storefront under the train tracks. I typically get one of a only a few different things, but I do admire the breadth of their menu. The Orange peel chicken is one of the best I have had in the city. Not oily at all and flavors were right on the mark. My only problem I have is that everything takes longer than it should. When we ate in the meal took about 90 minutes for two courses. Every time I have picked up a carryout it has taken longer than quoted. I can understand that once in a while, but every time? Additionally, there does not seem to be a sense of urgency to attend to the delay and that can be frustrating. I still go back but never to eat in and i always place my orders well ahead of time.

good food
I've been here at least five times and have never had a bad meal. I usually get sushi or Thai food but they also offer Chinese, and Korean. They have a large menu and everything I've tried there has been really good. Every time my friends visit me in Chicago we make a trip here because we cannot get enough of the Crab Rangoon. If you like Crab Rangoon this is THE only place you should be getting it at. $5 for 8 HUGE pieces of Crab Rangoon! Usually places give you like 4 tiny pieces for much more than that. The rest of their food is reasonably priced--maybe a couple dollars more for an entre than most small Asian restaurants.

They have mediocre service, but it's not so awful that I wouldn't dine there.

It is a dim-lit very well decorated restaurant with candle lit tables and bamboo on the walls. It's very classy!

Nice Ambiance, Okay Food, Slow Service even on a weekday
We went on a weekday and our group consist of 12 people. We were seated promptly due to reservation. Water was already on the table but we were not greeted by the server until much later. The shakes are okay, fruity. Calamari and Shrimp tempura is light and delectable but comparable to others. Lemongrass beef tastes like beef and tomato with green pepper that you get in a regular chinese restaurant. Empress chicken is good but all breading. Dragon and Godzilla roll is good as well but not impressive. The only outstanding dish is the banana eggroll desert(3 small). Everyone's order came out first and the dragon roll took the longest. The Tamarind special duck is palatable. The servers are very accommodating and friendly if you need anything. The Host gave his best smile on our way out but never glanced at us the whole time due to his phone ringing of the hook for take out-which I guess is better to do than to sit in. We will probably try a different one next time, price is 31 for dinner specials but the taste is worth like a normal Chinese take out . I would recommend only to people if they are already in the area and they want a decent place to take someone not familiar because ambiance is really quite special.

Late service, rude staff
The resturant manager just hung up on me over the phone and that's just one incidence of how terrible this restaurant is. If the food was good I would say put up with it, but it is absolutely non-descript, service is terrible at best, and on top of it all they make mistakes with credit cards, overcharge you and then refuse to take reponsability for it. Staff is rude and unacommodating, our meal arrived in complete disorder, and it took several attempts for the waitress to get things right. Take my advice and stay away from Tamarind.
