I have been teaching grade school for over 20 years and have had many parents pay high tuitions at Sylvan and other commercial tutoring programs and have seen little improvement overall. The only programs I have seen much progress from in my students were A-1 Tutoring, Superphonics Tutoring, and Celtic Lessons using old time curriculum. Sylvan tests low upon entering and too high at the end of the hours. They offer 9 extra hours if they haven' met their guarantee but 9 hours does not make up for 36 to 50 hours of little or no progress. Before signing up with Sylvan I suggest you ask them if they will let you watch the tutoring or get a refund if they can't SHOW results in each step by student demonstration of mastered skills.‎
