I have been going to Sunset Plaza Dental a couple of times a year for the last couple of years. I was surprised at the negative review particularly what was said about Dr. Afar. I could not have had a more opposite interaction with Dr. Afar than what the previous reviewer had reported. Not only have I had excellent care from him, I feel that he has been more ethical than any previous people I have gone to in the past. I have been going to dentists for the last 36 years and have never been happier.

Having had to get a couple of root canals and supposedly going to "one of the best" in Beverly Hills, thanks to Sunset Plaza Dental, I no longer have tremendous fear should I ever require another one. Not only was I thrilled that I was able to have someone available at this office due to this office having a number of people with different disciplines/training, it was the least painful root canal that I have ever had. In addition to being the least painful root canal, it was also the cheapest one I have ever had not to mention beating the price of root canals that friends have had at other places.

Besides having access to a number of services that their staff provides, I was shocked that convenient underground parking was not only available, but that it was also free too!

Before finding Sunset Plaza Dental, I went through other Dentists that not only over- charged or rushed to have certain procedures done, the technicians must have been on commission for trying to sell you all sorts of extras such as teeth bleaching, tongue scrapers, etc. Sunset Plaza Dental offers teeth bleaching and other things, but never have they tried to sell me anything extra.

I highly recommend Sunset Plaza Dental and have never been disappointed with any of staff. For once, I don?t feel like I have to be on-guard making sure that I am not being over charged or recommended any unnecessary procedures.

Due the hostile and unfair nature of the previous post, we felt compelled to respond with our side of the story: It is true we have extended gift certificates to charity events in the past and will continue to do so to serve our community. These gift certificates are in the form of an amount or percentage off of the original price of the treatment. We always honor our certificates and would certainly not extend them if we could not honor them. It appears that this individual was under the misassumption that the certificate entitled them to free treatment- and that was not the case.
Further, Dr. Bijan Afar, our lead periodontist has over twenty years experience in treating Westside patients successfully. It is unfortunate that you found Dr. Afar to be hostile because in reality, most patients specifically and consistently ask for Dr. Afar because of his kind and caring demeanor.
We do understand that not every personality is always a perfect match and we are truly sorry for any misunderstanding or negative experience. Our goal is 100% patient satisfaction, including quality of treatment and overall experience. We always welcome constructive criticism and work hard to improve our practice. Thank you.

Sunset Plaza Dental, while it has a very nice receptionist, seems to be almost fly-by-night -- I suspect it may be a satellite center for several dentists, but nobody cares for the facility, its staff or equipment, and this doesn't seem to concern anyone.

None of the several dentists named on the many cards at the front desk were present when I stopped by Friday afternoon for an emergency toothache. Even though there was a dentist standing in the reception area and nobody in the place, I was sent home without any treatment or medication and asked to come back after the weekend. The actual dentist who did my work was not any of the dentists on the business cards at the front desk.

When I came back on Monday the office was once again empty. The dental assistant present at my time of treatment did not seem to know where the required supplies were stored and did not seem well acquainted with the dentist who worked on me. He was terse with both the assistant and I, although he did the work quickly and it has stood up well enough.

The small office is not well kept up, with dirty walls, older appearing equipment, cluttered floors and a bathroom in which many supplies are stacked. There were no paper towels. En route to that bathroom, I observed many dental tools and syringes sitting out that seemed to me ought to have been kept more sanitary. Had I not been in pain I would have opted to leave and find a different dentist.

Do not give this place your business! They do NOT honor gift certificates they donate to charity organizations for fundraisers. Dr. Bijan Affar is very hostile, and unethical. He does not honor his word. Furthermore, they charge more for their services than most other dental offices. Especially their teeth whitening service is extremely overpriced! They are nasty people who do not deserve your business.
