My whole family goes to Dr. Sun's dental office; my son has gotton braces from him (twice!) and we go there for cleanings. He knows what he is doing and most of the time, the check-ups and cleaning are painless... of course, varies with the procedure. He takes time to ask about how everyone else is and is very personable. Is not just your work on your teeth and then forget who you are-- everyone that I've encountered there is really friendly and rememebrs who you are. Prices are reasonable; without insurance, a checkup/cleaning is around $50 or so.
