Overpriced food that lacked flavor.
Pretentious food surrounded by a beautiful building with a dimly lit forest-like garden. I've been here twice and both was not happy with its selection.

I give them props for trying to be unique but this place is purely about its beer. And it should be. Now, I personally dislike beer; however, many people who do like beer tell me its quite delicious.

But since I'm a true foodie, I had the spud buds, mushroom pillows, onion rings, their version of a gazpacho and a stir fry. All were disappointing in terms of heat to savory ratio. The onion rings were too large and borderline burnt. The spud buds were overcooked and the mushroom pillows left an unpleasant after-taste. The gazpacho was watery and lacked flavor. In terms of stir-fry, the meat was dry and the rice was overcooked.

What I did enjoy was their service and their garden (and maybe the sake they serve). But in the end, that only translates to a star for me. Each person will have a different experience but their flavors lacked a bit of seasoning or made for an odd combination.

Still making great beer
They've been around for a while, they've gotten a lot bigger, but their beers are still great.

I'm really impressed with all the green initiatives they've undertaken as a company (solar panels, biodiesel trucks, etc). You might well hold them up as an example of how to produce a high quality product and be "green" as well.

I like their smoked porter and imperial russian stout, but they make something for every palate - go there and sample all kinds of epic beers from other great breweries as well as their home-grown offerings in either their beautiful indoor or outdoor settings.

Great Beer
The Stone Brewing Company and Restaurant are great, HOWEVER... While the menu at the restaurant is diverse and yummy, the prices are way too high for a brewery. I totally get that they are trying to be very upscale, but come on, really, ten dollars for a kids meal. The outdoor atmosphere is delightful and can make for a lovely afternoon or evening.

The thing that keeps us away is the prices. It has to be a special occasion to eat at Stone, and if it might just be me but I do not want to spend a hundred dollars on a meal at the pub.

Great beer, expensive food
Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens is a bit out of the way. It is located in a non descript industrial park off of Citracado Parkway in Escondido. There are two really nice things about Stone Brewery. The beer selection is great. They usually have 30 or so beers on tap, and they are all excellent. They usually have about a dozen of their own beers, a bunch from other local San Diego Breweries, and a rotation selection of national and international brews. The other great thing about Stone Brewery is the beer garden. It is a one acre patio that is beautifully landscaped including many trees, stands of bamboo, and a koi pond. The food is fantastic, but very expensive. The cheapest thing on the lunch menu is $12, for example. It’s not really a place to take the kids, and is expensive to eat. As a nice relaxing place to enjoy some really fine beers, though, I can highly recommend it.
