From what I have read here, it is clear that you either love the place or hate it. Yes Jan is testie, however, once you get past this, she is the best for the job. She does not take any wishie-washie owner's stuff so once you learn the rules, she can't be beat. I have a problem dog and she knows how to handle him. Perhaps it is her personality that enables her to handle testie dogs. What-ever the case, I still love the place and I hope her cancer does not keep her from doing a great job. I know my dogs will be well taken care of.

We board our three large dogs there. Great service, nice facility. Nothing negative to comment on, other than the quirky cost for a Sunday pickup. Knowing that, I just kick back on Sunday afternoon and enjoy a couple hours without the dogs. Regarding previous comments on the woman being cranky, it might be due to the fact that she was in the middle of a losing battle with cancer.

I wouldn't take my German Shepherd to any other kennel in the city. I did training with Kennelwood Village and was still having behavioral issues with my dog. I went to Jan and she helped my best furry friend and me get through our ordeal. I wouldn't trust my animal with anyone else. She cares about the animals and doesn't tolerate nonsense. I encourage anyone to take they're pet their. For the owner who wasn't happy with the care, I am assuming that they have no knowledge of dogs or cats and expect all dogs to get along. It just doesn't work like this. Jan takes the best care of the animals she oversees and loves them as if they were her own. Just because she doesn't take any nonsense from people who know nothing about pets isn't a knock against the establishment. Furthermore dogs are let out to urinate in the outside kennel. Perhaps your animals are simply inept to urinating in new surroundings hence an immediate going upon arrival to a new area. By far the BEST place to take your pet.

I've used Stargate for about 20 years. They are very good to my animals, and personally, I don't particularly care if they kiss my butt, as long as they treat my animals well. I have two dogs and three cats that occassionally have to be boarded. My Russian Blue is so needy and whiney (as Blues are...) that one of the girls carries him on her shoulder as she feeds the other animals. My dogs love to go there and I've never felt like they were treated with anything but love.
Honestly, there is always 'side A, side B and 'the truth'. So, you need to weigh what is more important to you. Do you want good care for your pets... or is it more important that you get your butt kissed when you go in for 10 minutes? I'll continue to use them. As a matter of fact, I'm using them this weekend.

I have been a client of Stargate Kennels for over 15 years. When I first kenneled there I was having to travel every week for over a year. The care that our dog got was exceptional and the dog LOVED going there because of Jan (the owner) and all the others working there. In all that time the dog never had one flea. She keeps the place spotless. We do not have children so our dogs (we have 2 now) are our kids and mean the absolute world to us and I can not express what comfort it has given us over the years to know that our dogs are so well taken care of when we had to travel. Our oldest dog died last year at 14 years old and Jan and the others were so sad about it, so I am really,really confused how anyone can say she doesn't care about the animals. All our dogs have also done training there and people always comment what well behaved dogs we have and I tell them it came from the training that they received from Jan at Stargate when they were puppies. I know that Jan has a gruf voice and maybe people take that as being rude but nothing is further from the trurth. She is strict about how people control their dogs when they are checking in because she does not want to have dogs getting in fights. One of our dogs does not like other dogs so I appreciate Jan making sure that people don't let there dogs just run around. The place is busy and she does get rushed when there are 11 people waiting around to pick up their dogs and maybe some people are thinking that she is rude when she is just trying her best to get everyone taken care of. This women is the biggest champion of dogs (really any animals) that I know. I know that in the past people have dropped off dogs to be boarded and have never picked them up and Jan has either adopted them or found them homes. This women really cares. As far as the prices, they are printed and on display as soon as you walk in the door. I
