Horrible place but you can go out in the alley for some extracurricular entertainment. Friendly? Not in my life time. Our one-time trip a woman fell off the stool and the bar and patrons just stepped over her.

The Funeral Home next door has a better atmosphere.

Alright this place is a dive. A cozy one sometimes mind you. It's kinda dark and stuffy. The regulars are blue collar and college drop out types all seem friendly and casual. Seems that everyone is a smoker here and they gotta go outside. Actually you can see the folks you gave change to next to the train having a drink on your money after 11. They got a fun bartender in there sometimes. It is a stop for a very diverse set from lawyer school college girls to dangerous substance abuser dudes. The beer is always cold and served from a bottle. The mixed drinks are cheap compared to other places. Think of the place as a nook to hide in after having tried your best, failed and given up. This place is below average when you are and will welcome you when your down. When your back up dont tell anybody just go somewhere else.

This place is a losers lounge. A real collection of losers and ignorant people..
I don't mind a good shot and a beer joint, but this place reminds me of the bowrey (lower east side NYC) where pretty most everybody has a drinking problem.

I love the Sovereign! It has the best bar tenders, best patrons and best jukebox in town. I avoid loud, annoying sports bars and gravitate towards the more low-key, friendly local bars. Being so close to Loyola you might think that there is a big, irritating college crowd, but it is the complete opposite. The Sovereign attracts a very hip mix of mid-twentysomethings and an older, more seasoned crowd. PBR is $2, which rules cuz it's my favorite "drinkin' beer". Sometimes you might walk in and there is a birthday party going on and a DJ is playing music and the whole bar is dancing and crazy. A good time is always had by all! If you are looking for a cheap drink with lots of great folks (who will soon become your friends), then head on over to the Sovereign. I might see you there!

This is the friendliest bar I have ever been to. I knew no one when I moved to Edgewater. After a short time I felt like a regular. It is also a fun place to party.
