We rented a truck for a short move and returned it at night
We rented a truck for a short move and returned it at night (leaving it on the lot with keys in glove box) in excellent condition and with full tank. We wrote note authorizing Budget to use out $150 deposit to cover fees (which should have been more than was due). Two months later we receive a notice demanding a $74.00 alleged balance due- with no reference as to what the charge was for. The notice threatened collections and immediate legal action if we didn't pay this alleged balance within 10 days. (Notice dated 4/11/08- but we didn't receive notice until 4/19/08!)

Word of caution: make sure you return truck during business hours where you can get the signed receipt from the staff that your balance due is $0.
I would NOT recommend renting from a company so rash, impatient and suspicious in their demands. The very fact that it took them 2 months to contact us speaks volumes. Is the charge they allege legitimate? We have yet to find out...
Meanwhile, my credit remains at risk. It is outrageous that companies are given the power to report whatever they wish to credit bureaus. And often customers have no recourse- the credit bureaus most always side with the vendor.
