Agree with negative reviews
I agree with all the negative reviews here. I find it strange that there are either 5-star or 1-star reviews with nothing in between, save for one 2-star review. Yelp has all negative reviews. I have either experienced the negative things myself or witnessed them happen to other clients. I don't deny or doubt that some people had great results from her treatments, but I believe the cost and time necessary to achieve these results are not within most people's means. Even if money was not a problem, most people would have issues with the 3-hour appointments, the deplorable sales tactics, rudeness and unbelievable lack of basic customer service. I, too, spent thousands here. And I will take the blame for letting myself be scammed. But I realized that good skin is not worth spending that amount of money and supporting a business that treats clients so badly, they are brought to tears. How do you explain the multiple reviews here with the same stories? Treatments that are performed before the client realizes they cost extra, pressure to buy series that cost thousands, embarrassing and rude remarks if you try to turn them down, and unnecessarily heavy-handed treatment. Microdermabrasion does not have to be that painful. As others noted, she bangs your face with the wand very hard, whereas every other spa just rubs it over your skin. There is nothing about banging the wand on your face before sweeping it across that makes this treatment any more effective. And when you are paying top dollar, there is no excuse for taking phone calls, leaving you for long periods and then surprising you with additional costs. She seems to dispute charges with almost every client. Even if I had unlimited funds and all the time in the world, I could not in good conscience support a business that treats people the way this one does. Like other reviewers, I chose to throw away the remaining treatments I had on my series than return and pay even more (funny how even after paying thousands for a series of treatments, you are never done paying and every visit to redeem these treatments costs an additional something or other). To be honest, she did improve my skin, but it seemed like unless I went often and paid A LOT, there was no way to maintain these results. I go to a new spa now that does the same treatments for a fraction. I also started doing my own blue light therapy at home. The device cost far less than one session at Sonya's ($500), and it does the same thing! It's painless and has given me results that are even better than what was achieved at Sonya's. My skin has improved without the bleeding, peeling, and scarring that often comes with her treatments. My skin is clearer and more supple/resilient because I no longer have the sensitivity and fragility that came with her aggressive treatment. I am embarrassed at how much I have spent, but strangely, I am relieved to know that I was not the only one that was manipulated into paying for these treatments. She really does prey on your insecurity and on people who are non-confrontational so that you cave to the pressure to buy and buy, and wait and wait. If you cannot spend thousands or handle extreme sales pressure, please consider other options.
