Better to eat in Chinatown
Like most places reviewed in Hyde Park, Snail holds up under scrutiny only within the confines of Hyde Park - meaning that if you're a U of C student "stuck" in Hyde Park, it might be a half-way decent place to dine w/in walking/biking distance.
Red flags: no Asian diners, complimentary bowl of homemade corn tortilla chips (?!?!)
Positives: many entrees under $10, quick food preparation, BYOB
Negatives: poor AC, sneaky "rice" charge of $1.25 (nickel & dime tactics), lots of vegetable "filler" in seafood dishes (bok choy stems & nappa), small entree portions
We ordered: Red curry Snapper (however was later told they did not have), Chao praya river shrimp (shrimp & bean thread in a pot), Chili scallops, Yum Nua
** Good place to dine w/ a large group only b/c you'll save by bringing your own alcohol **
** You're better off dining in Chinatown **
