Sheerwater review
We visited the Sheerwater for the first time last weekend. Since we hadn't been to the Hotel Del before, it was a little tricky finding the restaurant. The sign that pointed to it was hidden behind something, so we had to stop and ask. First annoyance of the day.
We were seated at a chilly table on the patio, facing the ocean. It seems like the heat lamps could have been warmer and better positioned. We order two drinks, a cosmopolitan and a vanilla lemonade and instantly we're $25 lighter. Mediocre drinks for $12.50 a piece? Wow.
I got the candied pecan, cranberry and blue cheese salad, and it was WAY overdressed. My partner got the clam chowder, which had been spruced up with bacon bits and bread chunks-- but it didn't do much to help the dish. We gave it about a 4 out of 10.
We also had the mussel appetizer, and I ate most of it because my companion found them gross-- their flavor was just off, in her estimation.
For the entree, I chose the cioppino, which was fabulous, and she got the scallops. While there were only three of them, they were still $27. To our palate, the sauce they were in tasted too meaty. Not a good thing for scallops. Their texture was just right, though...
Dessert consisted of strawberry cheesecake (they were out of the vanilla bean cheesecake I wanted) and my girl got the creme brulee. She liked the creme brulee more than any other part of the meal.
At $160 with tip, this place should be MUCH better. Can't really recommend it.
