Sharp Grossmont Hospital is a full service hospital with an emergency room, urgent care, pharmacy and, of course, the main hospital. The lobby is large and comfortable to wait in and is staffed by friendly, helpful volunteers. Some of the rooms are somewhat confusing to locate but the wonderful volunteers are right there to direct you. The nursing staff couldn't be kinder and seem very competant. During the most difficult of circumstances they remain positive, kind, and caring. The main problem I have had with this facility is the billing. I waited and then called repeatedly asking for a statement. I ascertained they had my correct address but still no statement. I received an unpleasant call from them requesting payment by phone which I refused to do without having a statement in hand. This continued for months. I was finally provided with a statement which I immediately took care of. There were a few other problems after that concerning insurance billing also. Other than these billing issues, the care my family members and myself have been given has been exemplary.

We recently had a family emergency which required a 911 call. The paramedics transported our family member to Sharp Grossmont Hospital. When we got there, we waited about 10 minutes in the ER waiting room before we could go back to the treatment area. There were several nurses in the room, and they immediately started explaining everything they were doing. This was a huge relief since we had no clue and were somewhat in shock from the actual emergency event.

The attending doctor was very professional and actually had a good "bedside" manner. We were told exactly what to expect and what all the tests were for. We were also told what the worst could be so we wouldn't have any false hope. We stayed in the ER treatment room with our family member for 8 hours. We decided to go home and get a few hours of sleep and we were assured that if anything changed we would be notified immediately.

A few hours after we got home, I called the ER and asked for an update. The nurse called me back and gave me the details and assured us our family member's condition was improving. I was able to sleep for a few hours with the news.

The next morning when we went to the hospital, we visited the Critial Care Unit. The staff were the best I've seen. They were well informed and on top of all our questions and the needs of their patient(s). We were able to stay over and that was a tremendous relief.

Our family member was in the Critical Care Unit for 3 days. We were able to see her go from near death to recovery. We believe this would not have been possible without an outstanding medical staff. In addition, we were treated with a great deal of care and respect for our concerns and emotions.

I would not recommend having a medical emergency, but, if you did, I would recommend being treated at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, Ca.

4 stars, at least! My wife had hip replacement surgery on Monday, Feb. 22. She went home on Friday, Feb. 26, using no walker or cane. Her stay on 3 East was great. Everyone was courteous, helpful, prompt, and genuinely concerned for her health and recovery. They did everything we asked and went out of their way to make her comfortable. I hate to leave anyone out, but special thanks to Dr. Hanson, Dr. Mohedin, Marci, and Portia. You are all great!

Grossmont hospital takes pride in making the patients feel comfortable. Great place to seek treatment.
