Don't resort to using this place!
I have boarded both my dog and my cat at Santa Cruz Pet Resort on several occasions. Often when I board my cat, I also request that they trim her nails as they offer grooming services as well. A few weeks ago during a vet visit, I asked them to do a nail trim and my vet found one of my cat's duclaw nails almost entirely embedded in her toe pad. I felt awful that this had happened because it must have been very painful for the cat. She was put on antibiotics for a week and I immediately went with the nail in a little bag (complete with tissue on it from being embedded - gross but true to outline the gravity of it) over to SCPR.
I spoke to the owner, and the best way I can describe his attitude when informed of all of this was curt and unconcerned. He had no apology for the fact that their history of charging me for nail trims, but not actually doing them properly had resorted in a hole in my cat's paw. The only thing he did do was deadpan the whole time I was speaking, reached in his cash drawer and repay me for the last nail trim they did and tell me he would note my client record that I was to be informed. If they were unable to trim the duclaw's in the future.
UNACCEPTABLE!
I should have required them to reimburse my vet bill as well since they are the direct reason this happened. In the end, the prospect of being completely done with them outweighed my desire to encourage them to do the right thing.
In a way, I feel like I got off easy. My vet was able to catch and treat what they did and my cat is mended now. If they can't take responsibility for this and handle it properly, imagine how they would treat you if something serious happened to your pet while at their joke of a resort?!
I do not intend to ever use Santa Cruz Pet Resort again, and I would encourage others to be very careful before using their services either.
