FANTASTIC - The only place to leave your furry family members
So clean, well staffed - the quality of care and service is stellar - My cat and dog are both groomed here and I've boarded my dog using their "family style" care. She never is in a pen - which are clean, but my needy dog needs to be with people. So she sleeps in the house and hangs out with the office manager during the day - lots of play time and she's SAFE & HAPPY - that's pet care!
Price Range: $50 - $100

Santa Cruz Pet Resort is a GREAT place
I've trusted these folks with my four legged family members for years and wouldn't take them anywhere else. They have fair prices - all listed and current on their website and plenty of staff to entertain and love your furry family when you can't.

I just stumbled across this review site, unlike the other review sites, there are negatives. What is MOST telling is these naysayers don't review any other business... could be the competition trying to smear a long standing business? Times may be tough, but this is not the way to compete folks. Try providing great service with LOTS of staff and CLEAN quarters!

Keep Your Pets Away
This place was a horrible experience for my two indoor cats. Stuck in a cage next to other cats and having to listen to the constant barking of dozens of dogs (neither of which are they used to), they were scared to death the entire day they were there.

When I dropped off my cats they didn't have any paperwork at all, didn't ask me my name, didn't ask me my pet's names. I asked them twice to trim their nails yet when I picked them up it hadn't been done. They said they could do it right then if I held the cats while the gray haired lady trimmed their nails.

They said my cats were scared all day and I said they were probably scared of all the dogs barking. They assured me that the cats can't hear the dogs back where they are. Which was a total lie because as
soon as they took me back there all I could hear was a hundred dogs barking.

As I'm holding my female cat the old lady was making me very nervous with her rapid clipping and moving her head in and out like she couldn't see well. I asked her if she could see and she abruptly said she could see fine. Then she cut my cat's paw with the clippers but denied that she had done it. Even when I showed her the evidence all over my hands she denied it!

They charged me $36 and made it sound like they were doing me some kind of favor. I never saw a price list. Seems like a very shady under-the-table operation going on there.

When I called after getting home and watching as my cat hobbled around the house leaving red pawprints everywhere, all the young lady at the desk said was "Sorry." No concern, no offer to cover vet expenses if I had to take her in for an exam, no offer to refund my $36! Nothing.

This place is not the idyllic spot they pretend it to be. The people I dealt with didn't seem caring or loving toward animals. They neglected my animals and failed to perform requested services. And the lady who trimmed my cats nails is grossly incompetent and should NEVER be allowed to work on animals again.

Do not bring your pet here
I do not in any way recommend this place for any reason. From what i have seen they put dogs in with other dogs that are not related in the same kennel. They also do not make sure the dogs play well with eachother, they just throw them outside and let them go. When i went for a tour i saw two dogs attacking eachother and an employee was just sitting there, letting them attck eachother and drawing without a care in the world. That is unacceptable.

Don't resort to using this place!
I have boarded both my dog and my cat at Santa Cruz Pet Resort on several occasions. Often when I board my cat, I also request that they trim her nails as they offer grooming services as well. A few weeks ago during a vet visit, I asked them to do a nail trim and my vet found one of my cat's duclaw nails almost entirely embedded in her toe pad. I felt awful that this had happened because it must have been very painful for the cat. She was put on antibiotics for a week and I immediately went with the nail in a little bag (complete with tissue on it from being embedded - gross but true to outline the gravity of it) over to SCPR.

I spoke to the owner, and the best way I can describe his attitude when informed of all of this was curt and unconcerned. He had no apology for the fact that their history of charging me for nail trims, but not actually doing them properly had resorted in a hole in my cat's paw. The only thing he did do was deadpan the whole time I was speaking, reached in his cash drawer and repay me for the last nail trim they did and tell me he would note my client record that I was to be informed. If they were unable to trim the duclaw's in the future.

UNACCEPTABLE!

I should have required them to reimburse my vet bill as well since they are the direct reason this happened. In the end, the prospect of being completely done with them outweighed my desire to encourage them to do the right thing.

In a way, I feel like I got off easy. My vet was able to catch and treat what they did and my cat is mended now. If they can't take responsibility for this and handle it properly, imagine how they would treat you if something serious happened to your pet while at their joke of a resort?!

I do not intend to ever use Santa Cruz Pet Resort again, and I would encourage others to be very careful before using their services either.
