Sam is a Winston-Salem legend. His work is considered outsider art, and everything is very folksy. Years ago, you could take any item in to the store and Sam would paint it for you. Now, I don't think he does that much anymore, but you can always purchase an incredibly original piece of work from his shop for a good price.

He uses found items (old clocks, beat up tables and other furniture, etc.) and bright, primary colors. His work is perfect for children.
