Took a friend from TX out there on a Sunday, what a great way to spend an afternoon. We are huge IPA fans, but ventured into some other selections and were not disappointed in any of the beers we tried. I was not prepared for how great the pizza was going to be. While the service is not exceptional, it's exactly what I expected. Our waiter was a little "short" with us initially, it may have just been his assumption we had been there before. As we asked questions, he was quite helpful. Overall excellent experience and I'll be headed back again VERY soon.‎

There are many, many great breweries in California, but the River squeaks by as the best. At least on the basis of the beer itself. Pliny the Elder and it's seasonal cousin Pliny the Younger are the best beers ever. Weighty statement to make, but once you've had it you'll understand. Service is unfortunately hit or miss. Some servers/bartenders are excellent great people, but some are not. The owner's a nice guy but sometimes you have to put up with his drunk wife stumbling around trying to help out but just getting in the way. On top of the beer, they also have excellent food. Beer Bites are the best not-quite-an-entire-meal in town. AND you can usually catch some great local music there as long as the air is free of hippie Patchouli stink.‎

A Saturday afternoon filled with crispy, delicious pizza and cold beer- sounds like Nirvana right? Well it's pretty damn close. I met a friend of mine at the Russian River Brewery in downtown Santa Rosa. The warm wood interior and simple menu of pizza and beer makes me feel right at home. Sadly, the less than stellar service left me with flash backs of the opening scene in Reservoir Dogs where Steve Buschemi discusses the right to "not tip"... but more on that later. I got there a few minutes before my friend, so I sat down at the bar with the intention of indulging in a pre-noon pint- never a bad idea, especially when the pint is called Pliny the Elder and is 8% ABV. The long wooden bar spans the length of the restaurant, but at 11am on a Saturday it is rather vacant. Awesome beer. Best beer brewed in Santa Rosa. If you are a beer snob and are touring brewing companies, DRINK RUSSIAN RIVER BEER! The restaurant only have 3 sets of sampler glasses so they are completely first come first serve. We were actually lied to by the server who told us "The bartender has decided to not service any more samplers for the rest of the day, when we get busy, the bartender has the right to stop servering samplers." this was at 3 in the afternoon. Around 9pm we noticed that 2 samplers were served, one to the the table "Russian River investors" and the other to a table of 2.
