stroll through time...
The Canal downtown offers a chance to visit the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial, the new Indiana State Museum, an IMAX theatre..

So many things to do... rent a bicycle and explore from the Indianapolis Memorial (for the ship which sank at the end of WWII), almost to the Indianapolis Zoo.. How far do you want to walk? With a short walk, you can sample history, get a bit of exercise or with a longer walk, you can splurge with time spent at the Eiteljorg museum, the walking path at White River State Park...

Many festivals are held at the White River State Park. The canal walk is a romantic place to stroll after a concert, or before the fireworks.

Go see it already!
The ever-expanding canal is one of Indianapolis's little known free assets. It's beautiful day or night. Parking in order to get to the canal can be an adventure, but too many people haven't yet experienced our canal walk.

A Disappointment
Sorry, Indy, the Canal was a wonderful idea and done very well...BUT...the city allowed whatever development possible to clutter its boundaries. How about the state parking garage that overlooks the canal. Or the back door of an office building? Not to mention the numerous, bland, suburban-type apartment buildings, some of which are already beginning to show their wear.

While the State Museum and the Historical Society certainly are great additions, you'd think there would be some restaurants, shops, etc to make the walk a bit more interesting. The San Antonio Riverwalk it AIN'T.

A nice, little diversion...but you cannot help but notice the wasted opportunity.
