This is more of a lesson that a review, but I hope It helps someone. Colortyme, known now as Rent 1st, Is a decent rent to own store, If you don't mind spending 5 times what something is worth. I, like most other RTOers, have horrible credit, or I would never choose this desperate route. I have been a customer now for 3 years, and have been on time with about 80% of my payments. I have NEVER been more than 2 weeks late.I am on a first name basis with most of the staff. DESPITE these facts, Rent 1st, or Rent Last, as I like to call them, will not cut you any slack when you are late. On the first day you are late , they power call every phone number they have on you until they reach you. On the third day , they will start making trips to your house, leaving a note saying they want their property back.If you tell them you need more time they will ask if you can borrow money from a friend. Can you believe that? So I understand I agreed to the rental terms, but they are very sneaky when they are making the initial sale. They only want to tell you how cheap it is per week. They try not to give you a straight number as in: " The total price will be X amount, if you pay the minimum, it will take you 3 years to pay for your TV."
They take advantage of the fact that they know you don't have a BestBuy card, or you would use it instead.The bottom line is, I know I was stupid to RTO, but I was desperate to have something NOW. Do NOT rent-to-own!! EVER!!! Save for a couple months instead of paying for YEARS!!!!
