Incredible customer service
Once I get the idea in my head that I want to get my haircut, I need it done, NOW. I use Google maps for everything since I have a GPS locater on my iPhone, and I search for conveniences within a 5 mile radius of me since I like to bike everywhere. Looking for somewhere affordable and incredible in quality between the Lloyd District (where I work) and Laurelhurst (where I live) was my only criteria. I found dozens and dozens of places, many of which were recommended by my friends from all over SE and NE Portland. But a little known Aveda salon on Broadway is where I ended up, and won the jackpot.
I must have called a few min. within closing, but a stylist had come in to drop off a new hair dryer (or "toy" as he called it) he had just bought, and he agreed to wait for me. I busted my butt down there as fast as I could and had an enjoyable, relaxing, conversational time getting my scalp massaged, all the products explained to me as we went, but not in a naggy way, it was only because I asked.
Mathew at Pure Aveda on Broadway is the best hair experience I have ever had. He gave me the perfect cut, asked me how I wanted things done as we went along, and went WAY out of his way to stay super super late for my selfish "now now now" neediness. I have never ever booked a 2nd appointment while leaving a salon before, and I went ahead and locked one in for four weeks out when I was leaving. The receptionist was obviously new (when I called, someone was annoying the hell out of me, whispering in her ear the whole time), but she was super charming and patient and had to stay late as well because of me. I would recommend Mathew to anybody and everybody (unless you make it harder for me to book him!). He has expert skills - did my whole haircut, which I usually swear must be done with a razor, with his shears, and it looks INCREDIBLE. I think the razor is bad for your tips too, right? I don't really know.... Love Pure.
