After dealing with a nightmare recently with a mobile groomer who mistreated my dog, I will be taking my dog back to Prestonwood for all his future grooms.

My only reason for using a mobile groomer was because I'd prefer my dog not to have to spend all day in a groom shop.

But now I'm realizing how lucky I was to find such good groomers at Prestonwood, and how important it is to be able to trust that your groomer is being gentle with your dog.

I believe in accountability when businesses are in the wrong - especially when animals are involved.

But I also believe in giving praise where praise is due. And the groomers at Prestonwood Kennels have earned and deserve praise. They will receive all of my business from this point forward.

UPDATED REVIEW:
After having our dog stay here, our only complaints were that the feeding instructions were not followed correctly, as our dog came home with extra food - meaning that he must have missed a couple of meals (meals were portioned in baggies). AND the front desk lady evidently did not write down our instructions to NOT give our dog a pool playtime on the last day since we did not want to pick him up wet. She was nice enough, but tended to talk over people instead of listening. When we got there, our dog was just getting done with a pool playtime, and while they attempted to dry him off for us, he was still quite wet. They did not charge us for the extra playtime. He seemed quite happy and excited, and we will definitely take him back if we need to board him again. Hopefully instructions will be followed properly next time.

INITIAL REVIEW:
After saying "Never again!" to ABC and being horrified by Barks 5th Avenue, we visited Prestonwood to see if it would be a good place to leave our 95lb lab. Walking through the kennel the first thing I noticed was the lack of that urine/feces smell that you usually smell in other kennels. This is the ONLY kennel I've walked though where I didn't smell that! So right away we were impressed. Cleanliness is so important for keeping boarding pets healthy - among other things. I didn't smell any smoke outside, which leads me to believe that smoking is not allowed at the kennel (unlike ABC, where your pets are exposed to it whenever they are outside). I was impressed at how well the place was run, and the overall look of the kennel: clean, open, airy, spacious. I am not at all hesitant to leave our lab there. The staff is friendly, and we walked through the entire kennel and all I saw were happy dogs. Not true with any other facility I've ever visited. Other kennels in Houston would do well to emulate Prestonwood. Anytime we need a kennel, Prestonwood will be our ONLY consideration!

I have always had excellent experiences with taking my pets to this kennel. They also have done great grooming on my Pomeranian. I am a pet sitter and have no one to care for my pet when I have to be away. I had to have surgery and my baby had to spend 10 days in the kennel while I recouped. He came home looking great. I was allowed to tour the facility before I decided on boarding my pet here. I tour all facilities that I consider and Prestonwood Kennels was the cleanest kennel I have ever visited. This is very important to me.

This is based on three different visits to this kennel in which I left my two labs. Visit 1: I was called on my cell phone because they had given medication to my female yellow lab when it should have gone to my chocolate male lab and since they were not sure which one it should have gone to, they induced vomiting by giving her something to make her spit it out. Mistakes happen, right??? Strike One. Visit 2: Was told upon checkout that even though I had asked to give my two labs playtime and pool time, they did not receive and the young lady at the counter could not understand why I was upset since I was not being charged. I chalked this one up to ingorance on this workers part not understanding it was not about the money, it was about feeling confident that my dogs would be taken care of. Strike two. Visit 3: Again, was told that my dogs did not receive any playtime but was given a reason finally. According to the young lady that checked me out, the people in charge of playtime do it all day and eventually get tired so sometime they cannot get them to take all the dogs that are registred for playtime. Huh, are you kidding me. They are aware of the problem, but still find it acceptable?!! I guess because I did not have to pay again. Strike Three! I wonder if they have the same people in charge of feeding dogs all day. Heaven forbid they get tired and don't feed all the dogs. I have talked to the owner a couple of time and really don't see any understanding on why I would be upset, so I can actually state that I will NEVER use this kennel again. Please be aware of experiences I have had here so you do not have to go through what I did.
