True Fine Southern Cuisine
The food and staff are wonderful. My daughter who hates grits, love's Poogans' Shrimp & Grits. The Bananna & Pecan pancakes are my daughters favorite though. The Poached eggs with smoked salom is unbelieveably superb! Be sure to try the fried alligator it's the best I have ever had!
This is a restaurant for those who like "Fine Southern Cuisine"! The menu is not weird as listed in a previous review, if you have small children who have not been exposed to fine cuisine, go to IHOP.

The Poogan Experience by M D. at InsiderPages
I experienced a ghost there! While having breakfast on the patio, two chickadees fluttered down and pecked at my biscuits. I felt something heavy at this time across my feet. I found this odd because I knew Zoe was supposed to be around, but across my feet?? Being a dog lover, the ghost tour I went on later made it clear when I was informed that sometimes the spirit of Poogan, the dog, is sometimes felt there. Great southern breakfast, but I will always be enthralled with the ghosts!

Weird menu and over-priced
My family and I visited Poogan's once and that will by our first and only time. I saw absolutely nothing special about this place. In fact, the menu is just plain weird. I guess if you like fancy-smancy "off the wall" and expensively priced "Food Channel" type cuisine then by all means eat there. It has been a couple of years ago but I do remember that it cost my two children and myself over $80 to eat there and that did not include the tip!

If memory serves correctly, I do not remember experiencing any rude behavior on the part of the staff who waited on us. The restaurant is located in a lovely old house (reportedly haunted, although the waitress I asked about the "haunting" said she had never seen a ghost there).
My biggest complaint was the price and type of food they offered - just not my "cup of tea" I suppose. My two favorite Charleston Restaurants are now "Hyman's Seafood" and "Bubba Gump's" and I highly recommend either of those two places. ;)

Pros: Nice atmosphere - you can eat outside on the porches, weather permitting
Cons: Did not like their menu items and feel it is way over-priced.

good by Janell W. at InsiderPages
The cute old house was charming and all, but the bright overhead lighting was harsh and not at all as romantic as it looks from the outside. For drinks, Pugin's punch (cranberry, orange, and pineapple juices with rum if I remember correctly) was sweet and tangy, a fitting start to dinner. For appetizers, fried green tomatoes are crispy and greasless with romalade (sweet and spicy marmalade) sauce; fried crawfish fritters have a crispy corn meel batter with rich, succulent crawfish filling, served with the same sauce. . The house special buttermilk fried chicken was some of the moistest, tenderest chicken that I have ever had; a whole chicken breast with buttermilk and herbs and spices with a crispy, greasless batter. The mashed potatoes were rich and fluffy; The green beans were crisp and fresh.. The biscuits (I wish that we would have gotten more,) were fluffy with that homemade taste; I did not try or even know that we had honey to put on them; that would have definitely complimented the rich, buttery homemade goodness of the biscuits.

Awesome
Friends and I ate at Poogan's Porch on a recent trip to Charleston. The service was top notch, drinks were out of this world, food was scrumptious! We dined on the porch and enjoyed watching a walking ghost tour make a stop out front. We heard some great stories from our waitress. Poogan's is a favorite among celebrities and a must do if you're ever in Charleston.
