this place sucks. this is an honest assessment of this business. i needed my wisdom teeth pulled and i had to decline when i saw their operating room. it was basically a standard dental room with assistants that didn't speak english and former patients' biohazard material just lying on the counter top. it just wasn't safe. also the staff was bitchy. i got a lot of lip from the whorishly dressed front office person when i was asking questions about my insurance.<br />

the wait time is ridiculous also. they told me that i'd only have to wait 10 minutes. that turned into 3 and a half hours.<br />

I went to plaza dental several days ago even though I read what some people had to say. My co worker recommended this place to me she was very happy with their work. I was treated very well by front office and I only waited 10 min to be called back for x rays I was very excited last place I waited 2 hrs just to be called back. I needed some dental work and dr melendez gave sev eral options wich I liked and when they gave me my breakdown of the cost they did give 3 options of crowns the one ins. Covers and the other that didn't. I had the "lava" I wanted the better one in my mouth, but I was still glad they gave my options that to me says a lot "they are not out to get you" I would recommend this office to my family and friends.

They misquoted me for a procedure due to an error on their part, not realizing that specialists are not covered by my insurance. Of course, my procedure was recommended to be taken care of that day, and lucky for me, there was an in-house specialist on duty. I was not informed that the insurance would not cover his fee, and was misquoted a fee based on what the insurance would pay if a general dentist did the procedure. What is wrong with this office? I chose this office based on having driven by it many times. I live in Carlsbad, and it was convenient. Also, my initial visit for X-Rays was decent (aside from a rude receptionist). I decided to get my root canal done there. They quoted me a rate, and had me sign documents saying I would pay it. I did pay in full. Then a month later, they come back and say I owe another $400 because the procedure was done by a specialist. Why they didn't think to figure this into the fee presented to me before ($1200) was that they didn't know. They are a dentists office. They deal with insurance all the time. How could they have overlooked this? Then, after having paid the balance over the telephone and requesting a receipt, it took them 3 weeks, to send me another bill. I called, and they said that I had no balance due and the document was not correct. The woman on the phone seemed irritated that I was calling. She told me that she would send me the receipt showing payment of the second fee, and I'm still waiting for it, 2 weeks later. I will be changing dental offices to somewhere with a friendly staff, with professionalism and integrity that I can trust.

This office practices in what seems to be a new trend among insurance providers. First they pad their estimates with optional items that total hundreds of dollars over what insurance covers, ( but they don't tell you that the items are optional), then they refuse to provide the service that the carrier covers. I need a new crown and they refuse to provide me with a metal to porcelain crown which amounts to $240. with my insurance. Instead they want to charge me $615. for full porcelain stating that the other kind can cause irritation. I have 3 of the other kind and the only irritation that I feel is for this office and in particular the welcoming committee who is anything but.
