A Great Place to Shop by Brietta M. at InsiderPages
I went to Plato's for the first time yesterday, and I am already planning on returning. They had a good selection of lightly used name brand clothes on sale for crazy cheap prices. I am a very satisfied customer.

To those who disdain being paid very little, consider this - they will not charge very much at all for the clothes you are selling to them. I saw around 5 bucks a T shirt, no more than 18 dollars a sweater, and 3 (three!) dollars for a necklace. If you want to make big bucks on your reject clothing - go sell it on ebay, maybe someone will pay you extra if you tell them Brittany Spears wiped her nose on it.

Not worth your time!! by Diane R. at InsiderPages
First of all, the first two reviews are definitely written by someone associated with Plato's...and by associated with, I mean paid by them!!

Secondly, the are entirely too picky! The first time I have took clothes into them they gave me $7 for 12 items (out of 3 garbage bags full) and were only going to give me $10 dollars for a $450 prom dress that was only one year old! I thought this was prabably because they had huge stock of VERY NICE items. I was wrong! The stuff I took in was in much better condition than most of the stuff there. And like someone else said, they will take anything TOMMY. Be it crap or great. Very sad place to go...

A waste of time by Tabitha S. at InsiderPages
I took 3 bags of barely worn clothes here and they only bought two items from me for a total of $6.00! They said my clothes were out of season and out of style. Sweaters don't really go out of style. They bought one of my Polo sweaters but not the other. They were identical but different colors. I guess they didn't have room for one more. I'm thinking they didn't recognize the label names since nearly all of what I brought in was either from the Venus or Victoria's Secret catalogue. Either way, I won't be going back. Save your time and gas and donate your clothes. You'll get more back on your taxes than you will if you sell them here.

Double Edged-Sword by Christopher L. at InsiderPages
I've worked retail for that past 5 years... so I'm pretty keen on pricing and the characteristics of many brands. Here's the pro's and con's of this store from my experience:

PROS: This is a nice place to look for some neat new clothes at a decent price, I'll give it at least that. However, the selection may not always be up to par due to what they buy and what they don't. Just as common is that other customers may have already come in and found before you or brought in after you. It's kind of a gamble, which has potential, of course, to be fun.

CONS: The clothes are used, and therefore devoid of any satisfaction or gratuities you normally receive under the original company. Unless you're ready to throw away your old clothes, don't bother bringing them to Plato's Closet... the amount of money you get for your clothes is pitiful. I myself brought in around $300 worth of clothing from Abercrombie and Fitch, which, mind you, was in excellent shape and just over a year old. I received a measly $22.80 for my troubles. Had I still wore those clothing items, even occasionally, or had someone else to sell/give them to, I would NOT have sold them. Selling to them is kind of a rip off if you're looking for a decent amount of cash for your stylish, but never worn or no longer fitting things... If you're just looking to get rid of some stuff, then by all means bring them in--keeping in mind they won't take just anything.

All in all, it works as a business. Just weigh your options before coming in.

Not all that by Pretty T. at InsiderPages
Plato's Closet is okay....they are not all that. The reason they are picky about what they take in is because they are not familiar with ALL name brand clothing and what is popular....not just in Lexington, but in other cities.

I noticed that they will take back ANYTHING that is Tommy regardless of what it looks like. They are trained to do this. They are skeptical about taking items that many african-american people tend to wear...like Baby Phat, AppleBottoms, Sean John, Roca-Wear...etc

They are only familiar with brand names that white people and themselves wear...Tommy, Polo, Nautica, Levi, etc...

They need some new people in there who know what BRAND names are..
