No-kill, All-heart by Paul C. at InsiderPages
I love this place. I got my kitty from here, just about seven years ago, and it was a great place. The cats are kept, when possible, in very large cages, large enough a person like me (6'4) can simply walk in and interact with the cats. They get plenty of room, lots of things to climb on, toys to play with. And the staff encourages people to interact with the cats before they pick one for themselves.

That's how I found my cat. I walked in, he was just about eye level with me, on a cat tree, he stood up, stretched, and proceeded to climb right onto my shoulder. I said, I think I'll take this one.

This is just such a great place, I wish I could adopt more animals from them, but I just don't have any room!

(They have dogs, too, but I didn't go looking at them)

PROS: Great conditions for the animals, great care taken
CONS: You'll want to adopt all of them...

In need of a pet by Belle G. at InsiderPages
Pets In Need is a no-kill adoption facility for homeless and stray pets. They really take good care of the animals they find and make sure to match an entire family to the potential adoption. You cannot adopt a pet here unless every member of the household goes down to the facility for a mini interview. This may seem foolish to some, however it really does allow the interaction between pet and human prior to the adoption and could potentially bring out any real mismatches before it is too late. Try Pets in Need as an alternative to the Humane Society if you are looking to adopt.

very friendly staff and volunteers by Cy Q. at InsiderPages
I had consider volunteering there before I had a baby, I just don't have the time now. I have referred a couple of friends there who both adopted puppies. You just gotta love what they do- saving pets and giving them to well deserve families.
