Defective Battery + Horrible Customer Service
My dad purchased a battery 2 years ago. It was defective (not holding a charge) My dad passed away. My mom went back to Pep Boys to get a credit, even partial credit to buy a new battery. Manager says NO. Only the principal purchaser can get credit. She brought the death certificate. Manager still says no on partial credit. Battery is suppose to last 5 to 7 years. She goes to Costco. They provide a credit and discount on a new battery. We are telling all of friends/relatives/neighbors to boycott Pep Boys on Genesee. Manager is inhuman. With this economy, I guess they don't need to keep customers. We had been clients for more than 15 years.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REPAIR
They screw up the alarm of my car and the locking system and now they are asking me to pay them to repair it! It took me 3 trips to their store and almost 20 hours total to have my brakes done correctly (they were making noise every time). The last time I went, they finally got the brakes right BUT they screw up my alarm and now they are asking me to pay them to repair it! GREAT DEAL! May be a bit cheaper at first but considering all the time I spent there and the fact that now I need to spend $200 to repair the alarm, I can guarantee that pep boys in Genessee is not a good deal. And the manager is everything but a good manager! Instead of apoligizing for their screw ups (3 trips for breaks and almost 20 hours is a bit too much!) then the alarm, well instead of that he was talking to me as if i was an idiot. Great customer service!

Shenanigans by Kevin J. at InsiderPages
I bought four tires from Pep Boys during their buy three get one free sale that was on TV. Was supposed to get $150 after mailing in a rebate form, but four months later I still have no check, not really happy about it though I guess I can't blame the 92117 store for me not getting me a check from corporate headquarters, it just adds to my list here. It should be noted this store tried to charged me for an alignment that they didn't perform, I caught it on the bill and they took it off, they even said they didn't do an alignment and that it was only supposed to be a recommendation rather than a billing (sure it was).
All the same I was happy with my new tires.

Then about a month later my car really did need a wheel alignment, it pulled hard to the right and drifted when I didn't steer it straight. I decided to bring it to Pep Boys for service. The mechanic called me several hours later saying it was done and that I could come pick up my car. Since I live about half a mile away I walked there, but walking by I noticed the car hadn't been moved, it had parked a bit funny and was still parked the same way I left it (with the wheels cocked), I pointed out that my car hadn't been moved and they said again it was fixed. So I paid, got my keys, and drove out of their lot with my car pulling to the right. Drove right back and told the store manager that the workers hadn't moved my car out of the spot, he said don't make accusations, I said that's exactly what I was doing since my car hadn't been moved or fixed and I had paid them for that service. He said that they'd take another look at it and after few more hours I walked back from my house and drove the car home nice and straight. It's going to be inconvenient not taking my car there anymore.

Then today I got a nail stuck in the tread of one of my tires causing a slow leak, and since I had paid for the hazard warran

Never return!
I should search the internet before I decided to send in my 98 Ford taurus for a simple smog test as a required procedure before selling it. What a mistake!

The same smog test was performed on my taurus about 8 months ago for registration and it passed easily. Since my car is religiously maintained, I didn??????t expect any odds for this test. When pepboy staff told me my car failed with HC and CO emission, and tried very hard to sell me their diagnosis, I simply said no and pulled out my car. I immediately ran another smog test at a different shop and my car passed easily with a result consistent with its previous emission test. Below are the test results from pepboy and the other shop. Just let the fact speaks

Pepboys's report
speed HC (PPM) CO (%)
15 MPH 75 0.50
25 MPH 138 0.75

Another garage's report
Speed HC (PPM) CO (%)
15 MPH 36 0.24
25 MPH 28 0.31

Pepboys's reading is two time more than the report from another store!

Now, go figure, pepboys is either not competent enough to do a simple smog test, or intentionally failed my car to sell me unnecessary service. I requested a refund of the test but the service manager refused.

I will never go back to pepboy, not even for parts. Napa, carquest, autozone and many online stores are much better choice than pepboy!
