Best loving, compassionate care, problems diagnosed quickly and accurately, friendly accommodating staff. Beautiful new facilities. In the event of an emergency, Dr. Handel makes himself available. No other vet gives 110% care even if it means staying 2-3 hours past closing to save a pet's life.

Best veterinary hospital and staff
Over the years eight of my dogs have been cared for by Dr. Mark Handel and it has been nothing but exemplary. One of my doxies figured out a way to access the kitchen counter where a new prescription of Rimadil had been placed. He took it to the floor and shared it. All three dogs were very ill when I returned home from work with the empty containers nearby. Mark and staff were getting ready to close but they stayed late three hours to save the lives of my furkids. How many vets do that?!
I've seen him taking IVs out of his truck in the morning for a critically ill patient who might not have made it thru the night without observation. I've never seen a vet go above and beyond like that other than Mark Handel and staff.
One of my doxies had a life-threatening emergency, possibly pancreatitis or HGE. I called to tell the staff we were on our way in and they saw Hans immediately upon arrival and saved him.
When I bought my lab from a breeder, we agreed she would have one more litter of puppies for the breeder. Eight healthy puppies were delivered but within 48 hours six had suddenly died. Dr. Handel was able to diagnose the problem and save the last two. I believe the problem was meningitis.
I could go on and on but you will just have to see for yourself what a terrific team Palomar Animal Hospital is. They are the BEST!

We've taken our animals to this vet for years now. I think the doctors and staff are good, but in the last few years they've started to nickel & dime me with all sorts of tests for my dog. Not sure if this is just a trend in general because it seems people are more into pampering their pets, so maybe they'll be willing to fork over lots more money to have unecessary (in my opinon) tests. I took my dog in for his rabies & bordtatella shot, and with the extra tests and meds it was almost $300. They wanted to do a general workup because my dog is getting older, (no symptoms or pain), just to check her. Those tests would've been another $180. I love my dog, but I can't afford that kind of money just in case something might be wrong with her.
I will say that my dogs are boarded there once or twice, and they've been treated very nicely by staff. They're happy and well-adjusted when they get home.
