looooove this restaurant! the lunch specials are great, and the hot and sour coup is the best in the city - it has some serious kick to it. just try to get there a little early, because by the time 12:15 rolls around the place is packed!

After reading some of the reviews, I HAD to see this Chinese control freak!
So, stopping in on a Saturday afternoon when the place had a more relaxed atmosphere I found the ambiance nice and the service impeccable. The owner perched at the bar in a position to observe every corner of the floor and I felt scrutinized as I ate. But, perhaps this is why the decor and service is what it is, he's right on top of it and that shows that he is working hard to maintain his establishment.
I found the appetizers to be run of the mill with the exception of the short ribs that were quite tasty. The cashew chicken and beef & broccoli appeared to have the same sauce and were bland.
Decent decor, great floor staff, ok food and wired out owner. If nothing else, he adds character.

Been going here for years! They have excellent service. The water never dipped below half full in our glasses, and the staff was friendly and polite. The orange chicken was some of the best I've ever had, especially after living in larger cities with a much better food (San Francisco). Very good place, I can't wait to go again.

I am a recent transplant from San Francisco and find that the Palais De Jade is the closest thing to real Chinese food that there is in reno. I will admit that recipes are changed to make up for unavailable ingredients, and it would not be my favorite if I was at home, but for the area it could be considered the best. A bit pricey for the portion size, I recommend the eggplant.
In the city it is well known that the quality of the food will be inversely proportional to the service. I think that the Palais De Jade is just that kind of Chinese food. I welcome the short and condescending demeanor of the manager, it makes me feel at home. If you are not familiar with Chinese culture or character, than I do not recommend this restaurant.

Food is usually great, but manager/owner is an authoritarian freak!!! If you are not satisfied with a dish you risk being kicked out!! I have experienced this personally and watched it happen to other customers. His demeanor causes his servers to come off as robotic with no personality. This is because they are probably so scared that he will embarrass them in front of the entire dining room if they make a mistake.
