I know what I am talking about...‎
I am quite well-versed in the bike industry - I work at a company with a major presence at Interbike (the industry trade show). I have my own job in the industry and have friends at Haro/Masi, Trek, Electra, etc... So, when I went in searching for something comparable to the Trek 3700 (or the 820 but with an Aluminum frame) or a Haro or the Costco-sold Northrock, I was VERY specific. Chuck accused me of not knowing what I wanted. Yeah, Chuck... I just named desired components, geometry and features along with a price and he accuses me of that... What it was is Chuck couldn't sell me on the crap Chinese stuff he had and I wasn't going to spend elitist money on a used Masi for $1500. It appears positive reviews may be self-generated... "Speak to him like a person." Oh, I did. I knew what I wanted, he couldn't meet those needs, so he tries to insult me. I know that trick. It doesn't work. I ask those of you who have not gone there yet to not go there. Those who ...

Talk to Chuck‎
This is a small, family owned shop that specializes in vintage, fixed gear, single speed, and commuter/mountain bikes- basically, real world functional bikes. You won't find the latest carbon madone with all the marketing hype and a $6k price tag (although chuck does work on them on a regular basis), but you will find some beautiful examples of the art of bike building, as well as some modern names like surly, KHS, and MASI. Chuck and Gretchen are always friendly if you approach them as people- Chuck knows more about bikes than anyone (used to file lugs at MASI back in the day). If you treat them like a salesperson at your local bicycle warehouse and try to get them to price match a brand new Reba Team because you saw it online for $400, they're going to give you the cold shoulder. Wouldn't you? Overall, this is the only shop I buy from. You may not get the rock bottom price, but you'll always get top notch service from real people who actually care and remember your ...

Excellent mechanic, not a sweet-talker
I have been dealing with Chuck for over 15 years. I commute by bike and race Ironman triathlon. I feel comfortable putting my life in his hands. Have you ever been in a bike store waiting for help and the person ahead of you is asking an inordinate number of in-depth questions? You know they are just trying to get enough information so that they can buy the right part on-line and save a few bucks. Yeah, well Chuck knows, too. I've seen people pick his brain for 10 minutes, find the right part number and then immediately walk out the door. Can you blame him for wanting to fix bikes instead of being tech support for the on-line stores? The reason he doesn't have time to coddle every browser who comes into his shop is that he only sells the parts and service that his customers really need. If he has a fault, it would be that he may write off a potential customer when he thinks that they are just milking him for free advice, whereas a smooth salesman would handle the situation more ...

AWESOME
WHen i made my mountain bike inoperable I immediately went to this shop and chuck (owner/mechanic) was ready front and center willing to help me out. He was quick, accurate, and knowledgable about his parts inventory and knew off the top of his head that he had my odd ball part instock. He installed it on the spot (no waiting) and only charged me for the part and not labor. I actually decided to make him my new bike repairer while I'm stationed here. I look forward to letting work his magic with my other bike issues.‎
