Great for a hangover, but only okay when sober
It was about 10:30 on a bright Sunday morning. I would park behind Broken Yolk, where there are only a few spots, but always tended to be a single one open just for me. I was heavily hungover, and my sunglasses did very little to shield my eyes from the ever-increasingly bright sun. I needed food. Greasy, anti-drank-too-must-last-night food.
Broken Yolk gave me just that. But I was a freshman in college at the time, where irresponsibility and ease of access ruled all, and Broken Yolk was 'the place to go,' which was pretty clear from the mass of people hanging outside looking to cure exactly what ailed me. The food is okay. The omelets are great, if that's what you're going for. Everything else is about average. I often got the french toast, which normally came out a little dry, with a boat of once-frozen strawberries to dip your powder-sugared syrup-infused greasy cakes. It did the job; I felt better. But, now, in my *vast* wisdom of breakfast foods, Broken Yolk is somewhat far down the list. I discovered the Original Pancake House. Or cutesy places in OB. Or homemade breakfast sandwiches. All much, much better.
So if you want an omelet, go. But if you want to avoid the crowds but still want some delicious breakfast/brunch, there are better options. But that's just my opinion. :)
