Friendly over the phone, but evasive when discussing prices except to say that the problem might be fixed for the price of the $90 service call.
The technician was professional looking and managed to eventually diagnose the problem. Then he pulls out his "fixed price" menu and tells me that I have one problem from Column A - about $800, and another problem from Column B - about $150. (More than the cost of a new furnace.) But, if I join the club (where they come by and evidently try to sell you new filters every month or so) then the prices are "substantially" lower. Turns out that the difference is about 10%.
After lots of hard-sell to join the club, the technician left and explained it would take another visit to fix the problem.
The repairman was mostly correct in his diagnosis and the next day, I repaired the major problem with a $90 plug-in part and the minor problem disappeared. Later, talking to an independent repairman, he told me that $400 for that repair would have been highway robbery - but Pacific Aire wanted almost $1,000.
