Greatest Auto Shop EVER
Every once in a while a person is lucky enough to find a business like PR Motorsports. Rick Weldon (owner) and crew are fantastic. I had a large project to do with my 2008 Mazada Miata and I have never seen such clean, knowledgable work performed. I was kept informed 1-2X/day with emails in between. I was treated with the utmost respect, which I noted all of their customers were. If you own a Mazda or other Japanese car this is the place to go. Prices are extremely reasonable

Drive On Over
Other people have already mentioned Rick's shop is THE place for Miata work in the Bay Area. I wanted to share a few anecdotes about my experience with PR Motorsports in the last ten years or so I've been doing business with them:

A) A few years back, my girlfriend's Miata developed some sort of clutch/transmission issue. We took it to a mechanic and they diagnosed it as needing a replacement transmission -- about a $1600 job. I went to Rick and said "look, another shop said I need a $1600 transmission job. If you think that's what I need, I'll give you the $1600 right now to do the work." They looked at the car for about 10 minutes and came back to me with "well, it looks like the slave cylinder's in need of replacement. It's about a $150 job, but if you want to give us $1600 for it, we won't argue." :)

B) Stupidly, I let the car flood (left the roof down; massive storm) and sit for about six months. I came back to PRM and told them "I don't know what's going on with the car. Check it out, you're authorized to do up to $500 of repairs on it, if you need more money, give me a call." They called me two hours later. "We checked everything out. Your O2 sensor was a little loose. $50";

C) When I got married, my wife was concerned that the car (it's 19 years old at this point) wasn't going to last and wasn't particularly safe. I had her call Rick and they had a LONG phone conversation. Whatever he said, she left that conversation loving the car and loving PR Motorsports. My WIFE loves my mechanic;

D) My clutch has been sticking and hard to push in lately; I dropped into PRM today and asked them to take a quick look and tell me how bad of a problem I may be having. Hector sat in the car, adjusted the floor mat, and said "OK, go ahead and give it a test drive." OK, I feel stupid. I came in and asked "how much do I owe you?" and they laughed at me. "What, for 60 seconds of looking at your car?"

Rick's saved me thousands of dollars on repair work; everything PRM has done on my car has been done to the highest possible level of quality; they've done all my maintenance and all my optional, custom work (rollbar, engine upgrade, etc). I trust PRM. Completely. Don't go anywhere else.

Best and only mechanic for miata in bay area!
Ever since I got my 99 miata, I've had bad experiences one after another until I found PR Motorsport almost two years ago. Unlike other mechanics I've dealt with, they are straight forward and honest. They don't patronize their customers and are always very friendly and patient in explaining their work. Although they are not the cheapest, they don't gouge you like many places I've been to. They suggest what needs to be done and tell you what's unnecessary. I've had problems with my car that others weren't able to fix. I thought I was stuck with a lemon but PR Motorsports saved me from that fate. Now, I get all my work done there and I would recommend them with confidence to anyone.

Simply the BEST!
Some years ago, maybe about 1999 or so, I bought a used Mazda and searched the yellow pages for a repair shop for it. Quite at random, I called PR Motor Sports. A woman answered. Even though I personally know very little about automobiles, I asked to speak to ?a mechanic? ( a MAN, of course). Laura suggested that she might be able to help me. Reluctantly, I posed my questions. As it turns out, she knew more about cars than any male mechanic I had ever known, and thus was borne our family?s undying allegiance to Rick & Laura and their crew at PR MotorSports..

Despite the long drive from our home in Oakland to Hayward, we would not CONSIDER having anyone else work on our cars, and ? in fact ? before we ever BUY a car, we ask for Rick & Laura?s opinion and would not dream of buying any manufacturer?s car that PRM does not support.

These guys are THE BEST: honest to a fault, totally competent and thorough, AND fairly priced. They feel like ?family? to us.

Don & Kathleen, Oakland

Experts who are honest, a great combination.
I echo the chorus of positive reviews for PR Motorsports. I have had a long history of mediocre mechanics and dropped by PRMotorsports to see if the online buzz was legit. I was impressed in their quick ability to assess my car, prioritize the work and their willingness to make suggestions that might result in a more cost effective result (they are not the cheapest place around but it is nice to hear which work needs to be done immediately and what can wait or not be done at all and that is money in the bank to me, as is doing the job right and backing it up). They are serious about their work and they treat their customers very well. I saw high performance cars and their customers who were treated as well as folk who were clearly on a fixed income and who were just trying to keep their cars running and safe. Rick and his team treated them all the same and that was refreshing too. To sum it up: they know their stuff (and my car) and they are honest. What more could I ask for?

(until recently I lamented that they did not also work on VW's but I recently found a great shop for my Passat too, but that will be another review)
