Overall: This place is almost always busy but well worth the wait and drive. If you have to wait you can spend time in the local shops or watching the ladies make fresh tortillas in the windows. The food is authentic and the tortillas are to die for.

Value: good value

Service: Service is fine. I even had my engagement party here and they were able to accomodate a large party and serve us in a timely manner.

Quality: Yummy. My favorite dish is a Pazole (pa-sol-e)(soup)and it comes with all the garnishes and fresh homemade tortillas. They make it large or small. I also like to get the breakfast dishes like Machaca con Huevos.
Pros: Food, food, food.
Cons: The wait to get seated and the parking in Old Town can be hectic.

great atomospher
My friend and I always go there before and after one of us goes out of town and order a whole chicken to share. I also bring friends from out of town there when they visit. Great place to eat. It is always very busy so get ready to wait a little.

Really Good Mexican Food
When ever relatives from back east come to visit, they want authentic mexican food. Old Town Mexican Cafe tops that list. I have never had a bad meal there. The place is always busy. The servers try their best but sometimes they cant always get back to the table. So tell them exactly what you need for your meal when you see them the first time because you may not see them again. The dinner entrees are pretty good sized portions. The food is excellent and the margaritas kick butt. They can kick your butt if you have enough of them. Not the best place to take a date, its sorta loud, not secluded, and you'll problably have to wait for a table. But if you want to get together with friends or family, and you're hungry, then this is the place.

One of those places you have to try
I've heard a lot of people say that OT Mexican Cafe is the BEST Mexican restaurant in Old Town, if not San Diego. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I do think it's a good restaurant. It is always super busy when I walk by or go there - though I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 20 minutes.

The hostesses are always super friendly and helpful and the waitstaff has always been attentive and timely. I like the atmosphere too - very lively and festive (but not a bar scene).

They make their own chips, which is really cool. They're a little thick for my taste, but good anyway. I had one of the best chicken enchiladas of my life there. Very flavorful and satisfying. It's a sit down and eat, then leave kind of restaurant. Not a restful, sit talk and relax and enjoy the atmosphere kind of restaurant. If you're looking for a sure thing, this place is it.
