Oakdale Heights La Mesa.
I have also noticed the decrease in care and service from Oakdale Heights - La Mesa since new owners took over. At first the service and care was very good, however it has gone down hill to the point I also will be taking my Mother out of this facility. Her apartment never gets cleaned unless my wife and myself clean it. I have had to shampoo the carpets myself after asking for it to be done numerous times. We have scrubbed the bathroom floors countless times. My mother's clothes are never returned to her from the laundry. We buy and buy her new clothes and they just disappear. Spoke with the admin several times about these issues and we get nothing but broken promises and we will fix that or we will look into it, just lip service. I do agree with the prior poster, the food is not what it once was. Most of the "good" staff has left, and admin has cut the remaining staff back so low there is no way the facility can provide decent care.
My mother has been without a telephone for at least four months, admin claims they will take care of it due to residences must have a special phone. Well guess what, she still has not been given the special phone and my daughter put in her room just a normal phone. The paper roller in her bathroom has been broken off the wall for well over a year, have asked and asked to have it repaired and nothing, still broken.
I have requested several times a meeting with the director, but just keep getting passed over to Linda Berg, memory care unit program director, which has proved to be worthless.
All this for $3,800 a mo., get a grip Oakdale Heights. I agree, this place needs to be reported. I am not just going to post my bitch, but will find out who to report to and will file a complaint. Some State agency must have some sort of control over this dump. I could say a bunch more about Oakdale Heights - La Mesa, but I will wait till I get my Mother out of this pit hole.

What Happen
I put my father in this facility and it was very good, but since they sold the place and the new managers are not senior friendly. I can't decide if they are trying to make it bad so people will leave or this is just how its going to be. So many seniors are leaving, I guess they want to refurbish or just really increase the rent. But, the food is horrible and now they stopped taking the seniors to church on Sunday. They aren't cleaning the rooms as much and the trash is so bad people are putting it out side in the hall. I'm moving my Father. They need to be reported to a senior ombudsman.

Ownership and management was changed at Oakdale Heights, La
Ownership and management was changed at Oakdale Heights, La Mesa in May 2006, one year after my mother bacame a resident. The new management arrived with promises of updated facilities and improved services. Much of the updating of the infrastructure, although required for permits and insurance, is not visible to the residents. The lobby and halls in my mothers building have been repainted but the walls remain bare. The carpet was left with paint spots. It's not a very cheerful environment.
A new laundry room for residents has been opened and a quiet chapel for worship service was decorated. Both of these improvements were met with enthusiasium by the residents.

The staffing at Oakdale Heights La Mesa seems to be very minimal for the independent living residents. Drivers for transportation always seem to be in short supply. Events are frequesntly posted and then cancelled at the last minute.

Service in the dinningroom is very automated and impersonal. When residents ask for anything that varies from the standard meal they have to wait quite awhile to receive their food. On the ocassions I've joined my mother for meals, entrees are often substituted or not available.

My mother does have a very large, comfortable, room with a nice view and access to a patio. The housekeepers are very friendly and efficient.

Oakdale Heights, formerly Regency Park, is my first experience with senior independent living. I've been dissapointed in the environment at Oakdale and the management. It is difficult to relocate a person in their late 80's, however, I'm starting to research other options. I've learned that seniors can't wait for promises to be fulfilled. They need to have a pleasant, comfortable, setting with staffing available to help with the daily challanges of transportation and activities.
